A woman asked me on a tram in Japan what I'd miss the most about Japan upon leaving, and I answered - without hesitation - "the vending machines". That was 11 years ago, and in spite of everything else I really miss about Japan, I think it might still be number 1

These are the types of souvenirs that I was looking for content on YouTube. And it’s all on one video. The style, the genuine interest in keeping real mementos, and functional use are seriously my jam. Thanks!

I was in Japan the first two weeks of November. The best things I got for myself there is a book in a Samurai museum in Kyoto. The book is called "The Night Parade of One Hundred Demons: a Field Guide to Japanese Yokai".
In Tokyo I got a cool looking hat, a mixture between a light beanie and one of those hats with the ear cover flaps. Currently my most favorite hat. I'm quite but not extremely minimalist person, so I didn't bring back much more than photos, videos and memories. I'm so excited to return this Fall, but this time for 3-6 weeks.
I went for 10 days. This was my first time ever traveling. I went alone, 5600 miles from home. The only time I was terrified were the 2 hours in my home airport and the two hour flight to LAX

I miss Japan! Only went twice but im dying to go again before im 35. They have some of the funnest and actually beneficial trinkets ever. So many wonder swans when I was in Tokyo by Disney and the shops in Nagoya.

11:33 I found this frame shot and detail absolutely beautiful! Vintage camera peeking on the front looks so aesthetic

my japan edc was always:
- pocket wi-fi
- external battery
- osmo pocket
- sony rx100 or leica t (depending on the day)
- conbini onigiri and sandoichis to get me through the day (saves time ordering food if it's already in your bag)

I went in September and picked up some of the same!

- I made a ring just as you did, but it was in a shop in Kyoto.
- 2 Nintendo keychains. (Gamecube buttons & N64 C buttons)
- I went to the Peak Design store and picked up some discontinued packing cubes for cheap. As well as the limited edition camera strap anchors from their gotcha machine.
- A bunch of enamel pins. A few were from a blacnd box at a Ghibli store (I got Totoro & a Mononoke Mask).
- I made my own ramen at the instant ramen museum and brought it back.

Before going I picked up a new slign (ISHO-X5 from Carry Cubo). This worked amazing for me. It was light, and could fit a lot. I carried a Sony a7IV with a 2.8 35mm, Insta360 RS One, passport, cash, external battery, hotel room keys, very light rain coat, and a foldable tote bag that packed down to nothing. Also I added a silicon water bottle holder to the tripod straps so I could clip on water bottles from vending machines, as well as an umbrella. It was a very comfortable.

I went to Kyoto to visit my older sister 2 years ago, and I also got matching rings with her at Glanta as well! Mine is thin silver ring with "star" surface finish and I absolutely love it. Kyoto was very beautiful and I'd love to go back there soon!

I'm flying to Japan for the first time this September with my brother and cousins and seeing your footage just elevated my excitement to new levels!!
A PSP and a watch are definitely on the buying list but I'll definitely need to be wary not to spent all my money over there, which I feel would happen rather easily haha

Rocked a crossbody bag for the daily camera carry in Japan.

My pickups included a new chefs knife, too many smiski, incense, and some ema from shrines.

Great video! I added the Nintendo controller gachapon to my list ages ago but I'm shocked I didn't end up bookmarking Nintendo Kyoto on my Google Maps! Thank you for reminding me! I'm personally hoping for the N64 joystick one! The tote bag looks amazing too!

Congrats! This is the best EDC video I’ve seen! Most EDC videos showcase kits worth thousands of pounds of premium or limited edition gear. This was a refreshing change. I love the idea of building an EDC kit from local products while traveling. I’ll definitely try that next time in Japan!

As for the physical Suica, it’s better than you think. it remains valid for 10 years from the last transaction. I’m still using mine from 2008! Unfortunately, Apple Wallet Suica works only for foreigners with iPhones, while Android users likely won’t have access until 2026 via Google Wallet. But hey, at least I don’t have to worry about a dead phone battery.

I completely agree on the PD backpack. Love it as it's great for protection but too heavy for a few EDC items on long walking days. I use it mainly for travel A-B or when carrying a lot of lenses that need more robust protection. For a lightweight EDC option, I recommend the Bellroy Lite backpack. Only 300g, waterproof, has internal organization, good wearing comfort and folds flat for packing. Just note, it has zero shock protection, so if you’re carrying a camera inside unless it's in it's own little protective cube you bought separately.
