I'd be the first to admit that I wasn't totally sold on a 5ft 9 CB, especially when you see how slight Martinez is, but he's 100% proven me wrong. Saying he can't play out from the back and "isn't particularly quick" is just outright wrong. Everything he does is a step ahead of everyone else. His passing into midfield and through the thirds has been fantastic, and him being a bit smaller definitely helps him snap into challenges and nip in ahead of attackers on loose balls. He's been great.

Attackers are not all tall nowadays. 4 out of 5 are smaller, quick footed. Big lads like Maguire struggle against them. Besides he brilliant on the ball as well as an excellent defender and character. We love him.

To those who don't understand the game, Casemiro could be seen as a steady Eddie - much like Carrick was. However, the biggest thing with these players is that the team is much worse when they don't play. That shows how good and important they actually are.

When I was a young child in the 70’s, my Dad took me to see Chelsea v Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. I had no allegiance to any team at the time until my Dad took me to Highbury and to see Arsenal v Man Utd. My Dad was a Gunner and having seen United play that day ( sadly they lost! )and having read about their history, I became a Red Devil. Anyway, going back to the Chelsea v Liverpool game, my Dad had managed to arrange for us to access the back room area. On that day I encountered Graeme Souness and Kenny Dalglish, among many of others as well but I highlight those two especially. The reason is that they were both disgracefully behaved whilst handling their meeting of young football fans. They refused to acknowledge any of us, refused to sign autographs and were totally rude. That behaviour has stayed with me until today in my late 50’s, so throughout the years any mention of those two ‘gentlemen’ has transported me to that day! So anytime I hear any conflict involving either of those two, it doesn’t surprise me at all. Souness is so self opinionated and in my experience was someone who totally rude and disrespectful to children .

Souness was complimentary about United when we were THE team, however when Liverpool came to prominence he was very sarcastic about everything United. He obviously thought Liverpool would be successful for quite a long time.
Now United are progressing and Liverpool are going backwards he is very agitated. He didn't see this coming. Silly old man !

Rio Ferdinand is only looking out for himself. I remember he was bigging up Max Aarons as starting RB for United last season... Aarons was relegated with Norwich last season and would have been available on a cut price but still found no takers. He's just alright then, isn't he? Turns out he owns part of the Management company that runs Max's career. Conflict of Interest much?
