Why did East German Soldiers Goose Step at a War Memorial?

This is a short history video on why East German soldiers goose stepped at a war memorial, which was dedicated to the people who lost their lives from "Fascism and Militarism."

A Prussian style military ritual complete with German soldiers goose stepping in front a war memorial dedicated to the countless people who perished as a result of militarism. Is this the best example of irony?

The changing of the guard and the full ceremony as well, was one of the biggest tourist attractions in the GDR.

"Goose-stepping" is a common marching movement in many militaries throughout the world.

The DDR's NVA "inherited" the traditions and history of the Prussian Army. Plain and simple.

The fact is the russians/soviet uninon encouraged eastern german army to follow up more to the prussian military tradition than the bundeswehr in the western federal republic of germany

The NVA lacked of some prussian marching music, for instance it would have been perfect if they had played the traditional prussian präsentiernmarsch for the troops inspection.

Thank you for the great video. Love to study something missing from contemporary Germany.

The problem with the tone of your video is that you think there is something wrong with German military traditions, just because we lost the war. There is not. Our Traditions are fine, and we are a good and decent people. You cannot argue with the precision, impressiveness, supremacy of our marching style. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it

Good explanation! Even the GDR was a Regime it understood the difference between military prussian tradition and the political interpretation about the Goostep. It´s not political to interpret it´s just a type of marching what the Wehrmacht didn´t invent... they took it from the Reichswehr and the Reichswehr from the Kaiserreich.

Is this the same building where the Wehrmacht also made the changing of the guard?

Where did you get the footage from? Is there anywhere you can buy the footage of the parades?

Probably the one who calls it a "goose step" has never introduced geese!😂

This type of goose step was not a Prussian tradition, it is a Soviet (and nowadays Russian) style - Prussian goose step looks different....

Another reason is soviet honor guards goose stepped too.
