My grandma was a princess from one of the Tuareg tribes. She was the last one her kind. She escaped the massacre of her whole family, escaping on a camel riding for three days making it into northern Nigeria. She was from Agadas. This is mother used to tell me about her. I was too young when she passed. She used to carry me on her back. Thanks for for some little bit of history of my people. May almighty Allah guide and protect you and your families Ameen. Salama’alaikum.

I lived with the Tuareg for 2 years. I first met them while I was serving with the French Foreign Legion in 2010, without typing out a "book" here during my service in Africa I met them, one thing led to another and I made some friends. I lived with and was assimilated into the community for 2 years. I plan on going back to find my "family" to live permanently.

*The Tuareg are a large Berber ethnic confederation. They principally inhabit the Sahara in a vast area stretching from far southwestern Libya to southern Algeria, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso.*

One of my good friends, who is Ethiopian, has a set of 21 Tuareg crosses in his living room. They were given to his family as a present when they lived and traveled through parts of west Africa. He did not know the significance, origin and meaning of the crosses, so I did a bit of research. There is not a lot of information available online, and the few I did find seem to be mysterious and unsure themselves of the origins. Each cross has a names, with influence either from early Christianity Coptic crosses, or Egyptian Ankh symbol, but adopted by Tuareg Muslims and sometimes used as amulets for decoration or to ward off evil. Anyone has better insight please post here and let me know. .

I found the Tuareg people through Amnesia. Tin Hinan was mentioned only briefly, but the translation “Mother of us all, ” captivated me. I’m really enjoying learning about these people!

Soraya, i am very pleased and impressed with your and everyone else's response. I've learned more from the comment section than the actual podcast. It's refreshing to see so much info circulating among intelligent people.

As a Berber I will tell you in Tamazight:
'Arca tskhliwmn, tzglt mnchk ntghawsa.'
Please stop spreading misinformation about the Tuareg/Imazighen/Berbers in general.
Not all Native Africans are Black.
Africa is more culturally and ethnically diverse than you can imagine.
