DC Controller Demonstration

In early November 2024 there was quite a discussion regarding the use of poor quality DC controllers, either old or just cheap types and their compatibility with contemporary model releases.

In my tests of assorted models I’d come across the incompatibility. This video shows the effect of using a poor cheap controller, Hornby R965 as an example, and the improvement gained by using a better controller, the Gaugemaster Combi shown here.

In summary, don’t use old or poor quality DC controllers with current models. It’s always a surprise even though I’ve seen the effects over many years, that modellers still use these poor control systems, importantly it can mask a real problem with a model.

Just don’t.
