Is Your Door Safe From One Zombie In Project Zomboid?

Can one zombie damage a door? Such a simple question brought a rabbit hole into the light. The exceptions have exceptions. I haven't gone down all the paths yet, but I figured I'd get an initial response out for the perpetually internet argument.

Obviously the zombie smells you when you're close and starts banging with all his strength!

Something I've noticed is that even if one zombie is banging on the door, if there is another zombie idling near the door, the one zombie will still damage the door. It seems to be tied to two or more zombies being within a certain distance of the door while it's being banged on, not how many are banging on it(but multiple banging will destroy the door faster)

this might be well known but you can also hear when a door is near breaking. the audio changes. there's the normal banging, then a slightly more "rattling" bang, and then a really shaky rattling bang right before its about to break.

Short and sweet, thanks for the upload.

That makes sense, you wouldn't want every single door being broken down after a single alarm.

Cool to see this looked into, I've wondered how this works too but never gave it that much thought
On 0:45 It seems that mods changing the main menu usually only deactivate after a restart and shouldn't be something to worry about.
I hope the alternative menu mod wasn't somehow causing errors since it was made to only alter the menu's background and track files. Thank you for sharing it

I have noticed that depending on the attack pattern of the zombie (there are very slow ones and very fast ones, esp for windows), it will do more or less damage. Not directly because it attacks slower or faster, but the *damage* it does each hit is more or less.

Whats also interesting is that I've had plenty of cases where I was doing stuff in the neighborhood and (presumably) single zombies were banging on some doors. Obviously, they didn't destroy them. However. When I left and went really far away and then eventually returned, the doors were almost always destroyed. So there might be even more wackyness going on here (maybe something like "if the zombie actually unloads while attacking the door and then reloads later it damages the door even when alone").
Or maybe the zombies weren't actually alone but it happened too often for me to believe that to be the reason.

Nice video, straight to the point, love it. No begging for subs, it's not 10minites long just for the algorithm.. mad respect.

I knew they damage it, many times I went to the police station for example and had nothing to break the armory door or was too lazy. Sometimes a zombie would be trap or I would bait one to the door so it would kindly open it for me.

Have to wonder whether the "Environmental Attacks" sandbox setting impacts this. I made the mistake of turning it on and almost every door and window in my game is a pile of debris. Bright side is it does prevent indoor surprises with spawning turned off.
