Time to PURGE your vinyl record collection?!

In this video, I discuss the idea of selling your vinyl record collection. Or, to be more specific, PURGING your vinyl record collection.

When should you sell or donate your vinyl records? Why would you ever want to do that to begin with? And, most importantly, are there any BENEFITS to purging your vinyl record collection (especially if you have a LARGE collection)?

I have some thoughts...so let's discuss it all now!

The Purge - I’m a “running out of space “ guy, so I did start to purge records that I definitely know I don’t want. It then got more difficult as there are a fair number of records where I’m not sure and where I might regret parting with them at some future point and some have more sentimental/ nostalgic value than anything else. It’s never an easy exercise. !

The purge - i'm just about to do a video on this exact topic. I just sold 200 off that I basically have no idea where they came from or what they sound like. I'm thinking of going even more into this. Feels good. It started to just free up space but it's been a bit of a surprise and a truly freeing experience

The Purge. This really spoke to me. Thank you for this. I have been donating a lot of records to the charity shops on a weekly basis and very happy for these albums to have a new home for someone else to enjoy.

As far as getting rid of my collection, it’s definitely on my mind. Currently reaching the age that I would hate to see my collection by dumped off at the local Goodwill … I have a few records that have some value and I’m afraid my family wouldn’t know … thanks!

Been there ….recently got my TT back into the set up …went through my entire vinyl collection..edited out multiple copies and more importantly poor crappy pressings…and yes, I kept a few that were 50/50 only become I love the music .

I actually made a few list on my phone a few months back regarding records I didn't play as much and wanted to give them a revisit. Fortunately I still liked most of the albums and I plan on keeping them, but I did trade a few away. I liked this practice and I think I'll definitely keep using it as time goes on.

Intersesting point view, maybe I should be doing a similar video, when I moved from France to Canada I decided to keep my vinyl record and to purge 90% of my CDs, it was a tough choice to make.

I feel this! Only been collecting a few years, but I’ve definitely been purging my collection here and there. I tend to usually stick to new/sealed records and don’t tend to get used beyond some inherited ones from family. I even have gotten a few lucky OG pressings still sealed on occasion. I definitely tend to lean towards albums that I like for most, if not all the songs on them as opposed to just one or two songs. Keeping a Discogs is definitely helpful so that I don’t have any more accidental duplicates. 😂 Love your channel, man. Keep it up!

I've been thinking about selling some records to upgrade my gear. I did trade 10 or so records yesterday for 7 or 8 new ones - that was fun. It's challenging for me to sell records, but at the same time I have 10 or so boxes of records in the basement that are not getting listened to too often. Your video helped me feel a little more comfortable selling records.

Great video and thanks for sharing, we just subscribed. We never get rid of our vinyl. However we are incredibly selective. if we don’t think we’ll spin it more than once, we won’t buy it. We also buy CD’s. We own more than 400 + records and listen to them all. Besides, these days, vinyl has gotten incredibly expensive! However, Blue Note lately are probably the best buy!🎧

The Purge. I have all of my records in a spreadsheet. I update the number of plays each time I listen to the album. At some point in time, I plan to purge the records that have only a couple of plays or none.

OK, here’s my take. I’m like you, I prefer to buy used vinyl, sometimes I’ll find something that I really want, but the condition of it is less than perfect, I would buy it, and then later if I found the same thing in a better condition, I would buy it and use the other for trade next time I go shopping.

we definitely have some that we need to get rid of. just need to take the time to go through them. but then what... do we donate...
