yeah, it was one of my favourite books as a kid! it was called اللفت العملاق which means the giant turnip, and in the ending they also made soup with the turnip

It dies exist in my state of Maharashtra- India.
The language is Marathi. And an interesting fact - Russian and Marathi word is same for Sugar - Saakhar. I was shocked to know this when I traveled to Moscow 2015
