I like to believe that instead of Gordon not being able to talk, he just chose not to after what happened in HL1.

Reminder: The entirety of the half life series takes place within the span of a few days in freeman’s perspective.

The morphine is the only thing that's keeping him sane

He never talked in the first game because there was barely anyone left alive that wasn't trying to kill him. In the second game he just saw no point in talking to people that were gonna die.

a longer version of this video is necessary.

Gordon Freeman
- Survivor of the Black Mesa Incident
- Was one of the reasons why the Incident occurred (pushing the cart)
- Witnessed his fellow workers that he possibly knew for a long time get murdered
- Had to kill just to survive
- Employed by G-Man
- Woke up during a time where the Combine had taken over.
- Knows only four remaining survivors of the Black Mesa Incident
- Has to fight against the Combine
- Went through Ravenholm
- Stalker Train
- Saw one of his companions nearly die
- Witnessed one of the survivors of the Black Mesa Incident die
- Following HL:A, his companion goes missing due to G-Man

We giggle and laugh, but that's the face of a man who witnessed the total collapse of life on earth like he remembered and had to fight abominations without being a soldier himself, only to become the puppet of space Dafoe in a blue suit

I don't know why, but I have a lot of empathy for Freeman, because he went through real hell in almost a week, so he definitely has PTSD. And similar animations reflect his emotional state, which causes even more empathy. In short, I enjoyed these 9 seconds, so if you do the same for at least 30-40 seconds, then you can be idolized

He probably caused the Black Mesa incident.

He saw horrible things like watching most of the people in Black Mesa die without having the slightest chance to save them.

He was chased by his own kind and had to kill for he's own survival.

He had to fight nightmarish creatures completly alone out of his world.

And he just woke up after 20 years in the future just to discover the consequences of his actions that now he has to solve.

Poor guy.

There's a few similarities between Gordon and Doomguy:
- both don't talk (probably because they are both traumatized and refuse to speak)
- both are badass
- both saved the world

I dont think Gordon would ever want to take the H.E.V of. He's gotta be addicted to the morphine and would always think he'll need it incase another planetary threat happens.

I really like these videos showing how human Gordon really is. It'd be interesting to see Valve do something like this in game. Like an NPC looks at Gordon and says "Hey you doin' alright, doc?" Like Gordon has an expression on his face that we can't see that probably has a bit of dread or something on it, like in this video.

the crowbar slowly slipping out of his hand was a nice touch

When I played I found myself doing certain things and this lead me to create a picture of the Gordon Freeman I personally portrayed. For me the Gordon I played as would be a very hyper person that is constantly checking areas, constantly reloading his weapons, and constantly standing guard. This isn't because he is a naturally hyper person but because he is always on guard. Constantly in the game Gordon is fighting for his own survival. The moments of calm are incredibly brief and are always interrupted by violence. To me Gordon would be heavily impacted by the Black Mesa Incident and the events of Half life 2. He is guilt ridden from the Black Mesa Incident which he believes he caused and is horrified to discover that the vortigaunts he killed were essentially innocents that were enslaved. He desperately wants to make up for what he believes are his mistakes. He is paranoid that if he lets his guard down then those close to him will die(which to be fair that is true in half life). I honestly did all this without even thinking about it and I am interested if anyone else ever considered how they might have portrayed Freeman in their playthroughs. In Conclusion: The Gordon that I portrayed in my playthrough needs therapy. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

i'd also love to see one with hl1 flashbacks, i believe it was definitely more traumatic then hl2

Imagine the PTSD Gordon must have, and all of the events of HL1+2 happened over the course of a couple of days (well, from Gordon’s perspective)

There’s a song by low roar that has the lyrics “nothing I say now, will help” and that whole song as well as that lyric make me think of Gordon. Maybe he knew his actions were stronger then his words thus he never spoke. He chose to lead and help the world with his actions not his words

I think the reason why Freeman hasn’t had a mental breakdown is because he’s been FAR beyond what anyone has been through, to the point of him just becoming a scared animal afraid of it’s own mortality, Freeman doesn’t speak because he’s always lost in thought, when he’s given a moment to rest he never has an emotional breakdown because his mind can’t even begin to understand his situation.

His mind never lingers into the past because his present is just as catastrophic as the past…
