What Do Deaf People Hear?

Hello and welcome back to Life’s Biggest Questions, I’m Ron McKenzie-Lefurgey. Hearing loss can be caused by any number of things; anything from illnesses, to head injury, to listening to music too loudly can result in some sort of deafness. Roughly 20% of Americans report some degree of hearing loss. However, despite the prevalence of deafness of varying degrees, a significant proportion of the population doesn't quite understand how deafness works. Does life become a vacuum completely devoid of sound, or can certain things be heard? Let's explore.

I’m a seventeen year old with a mild hearing loss. I use hearing aids and I hear just fine. My brother also has a moderate hearing loss. It’s very hard to hear in crowds for both of us it’s really hard to deal with but we’re doing really good now with the lovely technology we have now.

My mom was deaf for the rest of her life (41years) I always cry when I talk about cause my entire life I never got to hear my mom and I really want to but I can’t. She denied using hearing aids cause it hurts. For now on every time I think about it then I’ll pray for her. I love you mom ❤️

I'm not really deaf, I'm just healing my ears after I was born completely deaf, but for me when I take of hearing aids, the ears began to ring for no reason

I'm surprised to know Beethoven was deaf and yet he became one of the greatest composers the world has ever known.

Excellent, Rob. You are the best here at LBQ. Keep up the good work. "What do blind people visualize?" Should I have used an "s"? Every now and then you remind me you're Canadian. "Parlance". Anyway, I have a decent amount of hearing loss, and people who use headphones after me on my podcasts are like "Wow, that's way too loud!" I'm lucky in the sense that i can hear and feel vibrations, read lips and body language and hear enough to somewhat function in society. Here are a few drunken madman suggestions for videos: "Is there such thing as a soul?", "Why do humans blush?" (did you do that one?), "What if the US sold themselves to England in 1814?" ::urp::

This didnt answer my question though, if you go deaf completely is there a ringing or white sound or is it completley silent?

Oh great to see an improvement in hearing loss treatment. I am at around 50dB in moderate so I'm glad to see this. Great video too

If you have the max, which I do have. I use Cochlear to make me hear. But it helps me to understand who has hearing loss.

I am deaf, and i tried to hear when dogs barking, but i hear nothing

I have profound hearing loss. I absolutely cannot hear anything except feel the vibration caused by loud sound like lightning. I use hearing aid to help me hear. If u ask me, it is better to be deaf than normal, cos I can choose whether to block out noise or not.
