A day at Melbourne Furry Convention | SBS The Feed

Furries are people who are interested in - and often dress up as - cartoon animals. We went to Melbourne Furry Convention to ask people why they’re in the furry community, and what their mum thinks about it.

People will often spend thousands of dollars on fursuits and identify with a personalised animal character, known as their “fursona”. It’s a growing subculture of thousands in Australia that’s still heavily stigmatised – but fans say they’re just misunderstood.

The problem is that people see a community as a completely collective conscious. Just because some like some questionable stuff dosnt mean the rest do. However the bad is always the part showing most since that's what graps attention. All a furry is, is someone who enjoys animals with human characteristics and that's it.
