I started the Course yesterday and today I was out having dinner and started talking to this guy who was running a pharmaceutical start up. I told told him I started taking the Google Cert his eyes lit up and he handed me his business card and told me to give him a call when I completed the cert, that personally confirmed the demand for Data Analyst.

I found a job and also did this certification, but what really made the difference was my portfolio. I noticed that when I put it on my resume and started getting some offers almost immediately

Google Data Analytics Certification will grind you with what you need to know about what is expected of a Data Analyst while IBM Data Analytics Certification is more practical and Project Based. My advice, Take Both Certification and be well grinded about Data Analytics and Start Learning and practicing alot from YouTube

I just got this certificate yesterday. I would love to add my perspective to a video like this (hit me up if you plan on making a part 2). I actually got a data specialist job just before I started my capstone project, and talking about this certificate helped me in my interviews.

I feel I learned a lot from the certificate and I agree with a lot of the comments from the participants of this video.

About the R thing, since I knew python before the course, I was glad to learn something new. Probably I would’ve never looked at R otherwise but it grew on me.

I would go for the IBM cert. IBM's courses use Excel and Python that most people are already familiar with during their school years, . and are 100 hours less than Google. It also has a heavier emphasis on cloud computing, which is suppose to be the next big thing brought about by AWS and MS Azure.

I did my Google analytics training based on your (and many others) recommendation and I think you’re right that it will go with something else you have and not something you rely on solely. Definitely doing this won’t make you a DA just like passing a drivers license test will make you a low risk driver on the street. I myself taught myself many of the concepts including SQL through YouTube that gave me enough to breeze through the course though I didn’t learn R. Post getting the certificate, I am now doing a crash course on Coursera on Python just to see what the hype is all about to get me the edge as a business person.

Antonio is telling the truth. 2nd and 3rd course did a deep dive in Excel/Google Sheets. After the 3rd course, you literally only have learned the bare minimum in SQL. It's the 4th course that starts ramping everything up with the programming languages.

Thank you as a truck driver I was thinking about a career change and saw those commercials. This answers alot of questions. I now realize that if you don't already have some experience working in IT fields it sounds like a waste of time. Thank you for giving me the knowledge I needed to not pull the trigger and jump into this program. I think maybe I'll try nursing.

I completed this certificate and I hope this will be an additional advantage for my on campus placement drives.

Really valuable content here Luke. I don't see anyone else out there doing this work.

I think people inserted some wishful thinking with regards to this cert, that it alone would be sufficient to gain employment. I don't think Google ever promised that at all.

It's great to hear these guys attest to the actual value of the course, and wonderful to hear that you have to combine it with personal branding and networking to be successful.

Hi Luke! Love the channel. I know this is a bit past the mark for this video, but wanted to throw my two cents in. I became a data analyst first, and am now in the process of rounding out the certs, degree, and general experience to build upon this career path I discovered and love! I am currently running through the Google Data Analytic certificate, and I agree a lot of the focus is ground level up, and some overlap on the basics that I already know. Having said that, it fills in a few knowledge gaps and makes that foundation even stronger. If someone in my situation has the time and ability to afford and take a cert like this, it gives a generally understood signal to employers or recruiters that those foundational ideas (spreadsheets, basic data analytics and project management concepts) are a known skill. There are far worse "unnecessary" certs to have, especially considering the overall quality and name recognition of a Google cert.

So I enrolled to the course, I got through 3 weeks of learning material in 3 days because I honestly expected it to be more rigorous and practical. But so far it's video lectures and short readings, which are invaluable of cause it transformed my thinking around problem solving. So if the momentum keeps, I think I might finish the course in two weeks

Hey Luke,

Being a data analyst for the last 1.5 years, here are my thought on the video:
- Pretty well-made video, that keeps people interested in what is coming next.
- *R vs Python* : Agree, they should have chosen Python or provided an option to switch.
- *Excel is less important* : Strongly disagree, I use Excel as much as SAS on a daily basis or more.
- *Certification is useful for getting the Job* : No, but I would like to add it to my resume.

*EDIT* : 2.3 Years now.

Some Analysts do use R, and some say that it is really good for statistics and educational purposes. But I would still want Python to be included in courses/certifications for Data Analysts.

Hi Luke. Thanks for this. I just started the course recently. And what I like most about the course so far is that it concentrates more on the soft skills unlike the technical skills that can be learnt anywhere.
