Nowadays farm graduates opt for career in non-agri areas that too in metropolitan cities with cushy postings. More and more of these graduates are joining IAS, IPS, Banks/finance, IT etc with the result that Indian sgriculture remains where it was decades ago. In this grim background the job performed by Dr Swaminathan for the development of Indian agriculture is stupendous. He was not only a teacher, scientist and administrator kbut also a field man, throughout his life. A very rare personality who deserves Bharath Rathna richly. I still relish few interactions had with him as an Agro-Banker in nineties.

There was a very nice article in MoneyControl on him on his demise. Feel proud that he worked hard to introduce genetic modified rice and wheat to grow agri output. It is very difficult to do so in India with leftist hell bent in keeping people poor, when they oppose any innovation to boost the agri output.

There are controversies in the work of Dr Swaminathan who promoted inorganic agriculture with use of HY Varieties, use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and is detrimental to the organic farming.

Mr Narasimmarao was called as BJP person in Congress, who allowed swayam sevak sangs to do shilanyas at Ayodya. The RSS swayam sevak sangs did demolition of Masjid in the name of shilanyas. Narasimma rao helped BJP indirectly. So he deserved for B. Rathna.

Modiji made amendments in agricultural acts against the interests of farmers and took the wrath of all faming community, finally withdrew the amendments.
