ANTs fuel your negative thinking 🐜 | #shorts

Показать описание
Have you ever had a random negative or self-critical thought pop into your mind, and before you know it you descend into a deep dark self-perpetuating pit of self-criticism and worst-case scenarios?
Thought so!
It’s very common and can lead us to become fixated in rumination, to obsess over potential negative outcomes and to catastrophize.
As neuroscientist Rick Hanson says, our brains have a negativity bias… “it’s like Velcro for the negative and Teflon for the positive...”
The ability to consciously challenge your thoughts is one of the most powerful cognitive strategies we have available to us. When you become aware of a negative or self-critical thought, consciously reply with a more rational and self-compassionate response.
Here’s a quick example of how I used this approach a couple of weeks back. I delivered my first in-person keynote recently after almost a year, and because I’ve been out of practice with in-person events, I really didn’t feel it was my best. As I started to notice the self-critical ANTs start to take over, I consciously responded: “With each event I’ll find my groove… I’ll do better next time.”
Have you ever tried this before? What was the situation and what did you tell yourself? 👇
