BPMN Process Map Tutorial and EXAMPLE

BPMN, formally Business Process Model and Notation is one of the most widely used methods for business process mapping and flowcharting. In this tutorial, I discuss process mapping using the BPMN 2.0 method including the main elements of the BPMN notation, BPMN rules, and best practices, as well as a case study for the BPMN example!.

A process map (flowchart) is a tool that graphically shows the inputs, actions, and outputs of a business process or workflow in a visually simple map of the process. The purpose of process mapping is to help teams understand the workflow during process analysis. Business Process Model and Notation is a process modeling notation created to standardize the graphical representation of business procedures, transactions, and business collaborations. It is becoming the standard notation for process management.

A business process map describes the sequential workflow of an organization or team. Business analysts use BPMN:
- To describe the context of the solution or part of the solution,
- To describe what actually happens, or is desired to happen, during a process,
- To provide an understandable description of a sequence of activities to an observer,
- To provide a visual to accompany a text description, and
- To provide a basis for process analysis.
