Kingdom hearts 1 and birth by sleep arent hard in the traditional sense.

KH1 is just a very aged, outdated game that makes it very frustrating to play at times.
KH BBS is legit just a bad game. 99% of the game is so easy to cheese that i'd argue its almost KH3 levels of easy. However, the hard bosses just arent designed to be fair.

How is Chain hard? What doesn't die to Firaga dies to Blizzaga. Minimal effort, especially for bosses.

KH BBS, besides post game bosses, is super duper easy, just a lil farming makes you handle very well the whole game

If you were to use each game's highest difficulty as judging criteria, without question KH3 gets put in Really F*cking Hard tier

Chain of Memories is honestly the easiest game in the series once you learn the mechanics and how to abuse them. You have to build your deck to abuse sleights repeatedly without scrolling, one after the other. Set a premium card for the first card in each sleight to save you room since you'll burn it anyways. Leave a couple of zero cards at the bottom of your deck that you can swap to in order to break enemy combos. And that's it. The only difficult part after that is just some bosses aren't in a good position for certain sleights.

Riku's side is hard though, since you can't build your own deck. That one's the real challenge.

I'm literally stuck on that part on BBS right now. Where xeanort takes terras body. His combos are ridiculous

KH1 as the hardest is wild. I guess I'm just kinda used to the controls and have beaten these bosses so many times. I get that base kh3 is a total cakewalk, but I'd argue the pro-codes completely shifts that. I've been playing KH3 since it first came to PC (didn't have a ps4/xbone when it initially dropped) and I still haven't beaten even the base game with all pro-codes turned on.

Heh if we're talking about Re : Chain of Memories, I think Sora's campaign is a piece of cake litterally can cheese every fight with Genie Jafar card and powerfull physical sleight, Riku's campaign is harder especially in some world where they give you a shit deck to deal with; but nothing to crazy so I would put it at Kinda Easy.
0.2 on Critical can be challenging, especially the optionnal super boss.
For KH3 however I'd say it wastly depend of what difficulty you choose anything below Critical KH3 is super easy, however Critical Mode makes it pretty damn hard I'd say this might be the KH games with the biggest gap between his hardest difficulty mode and the other one.

Kingdom hearts 1 really depends on the weapon to choose and reject.
Get Sword left staff = relativelly easy run.
Get staff left sword = be ready for nightmare or grind harder than parmesan cheese.

I'd assumed this ranking was taking into account all the superbosses, in which case KH2 would be top 2 I'm pretty sure? and I honestly can't remember ever having had trouble with BBS, I guess it's all subjective huh

anyway, though I don't think Days is any real contender for high difficulty, it's really unfortunate that it hasn't gotten a proper remake like some of the others, as it has one of, if not the best written story out of any KH imo. the cutscene pack they released in its stead sometimes just has inferior direction in some of the stuff that's just lifted directly from a cutscene in the og, which I always found disappointing, and obviously misses some of the wider context of things (one being the utter drag of the menial labor the org forces on Roxas - this serves a very relevant narrative purpose!), so hey I think you're absolutely making the right call on emulating that, I've been considering doing the same ever since I lost my DS somewhere ages ago, but I don't know if I'll be able to take the emotional punishment lmao
