I can hear the pain in her voice. Such a great person- I wish her nothing but peace in her life.

Hearing her talk about those women who built their own houses, overcoming her parents, and her work ethic is so inspiring.

Cautionary tale for everyone: Never let your need for love be so great that it makes you blind to the problems in a relationship.

People need to realize that mothers are not all loving. Ending the relationship is a matter of survival when you are in a toxic relationship with anyone.

What a sad story, but told with such dignity by Jewel. What an amazing role model for showing it’s possible to move on and not get sucked into vengeance when somebody you loved and trusted betrays you. Inspiring!

She was the first cd I ever owned. I bought at a yard sale when i was 11. I fell in love with her voice. She will always have a special place in my heart. I grew up in an abusive home with a terrible mother Nd i remember listening to her CD as loud as possible with my headphones in whenever i felt sad. Her lyrics, her voice liften my spirit and comforted me.

Sometimes it’s not hard to cut people out of your life when they hand you the scissors. 💔

She is right about how the need for love can lead you to lie to yourself. Sometimes your family and "friends" can be the worst thing to ever happen to you.

I had to sever ties with my mother based on a toxic relationship. She taught me to uphold my decisions and not waver. She just didn't think I actually paid attention.

You can tell she's still suffering from her mom leaving even though she covers it so well. Years of training yourself to be ok with something that once kept you in a puddle of tears. No one should have to go through that. Strong woman right there.

She's has the most unique voice, I've ever heard. So hauntingly beautiful. Voice of an "Angel". She's absolutely the greatest!

I haven't spoken to my Mom -- except for a couple brief emails when my grandfather died -- in more than six years. It is a sad situation, but necessary for my well-being.

So articulate. It's a pleasure listening to her speak.

Like many of us, she wanted it to be alright so bad....Mom's have the single greatest hold of any person and some are just not maternal.

Goodness, she is incredibly open and vulnerable talking about deep pain. Her strength inspires me, and I appreciate people like her who share their wisdom.

I completely empathize with her. Not everyone is made to be a mother. My mother had many failings, but if I had to summarize it would be Narcisstic Personality disorder. The many times that broke my heart was having to come to the realization (over and over again, because I'm stubborn that way 😏) that there is a huge gap between who my mother truly is and who I just wish she could be. I want my daughter to know that I will always have her back and I recognize her as an individual and not merely an 'extension' of me.

For a woman that has gone thru so many traumatizing experiences in her life and was actually homeless for awhile she just seems so together now. She speaks so eloquently and has such a beautiful singing voice. I think I am in love with this woman!
