My wife and I have camped and hiked in Alaska on 5 separate trips over many years plus the Yukon several times, and all over the American West. The two of us, after grown children left home, , were always armed with firearms and in Canada with the allowed 12 gauge shotgun. We always thought we knew what we were doing and never separated on the trail for a minute.
However, there are parts of Alaska, far from the tourists, that are downright creepy. There is more out there than Brown Bear, Bigfoot, and broken ankles. The usual skeptics have never walked a hidden trail in the fog in Alaska, miles from any road. We have quit these lonely jaunts into the Alaska wilderness now, due to our belief that we do not want to test fate.
