The Texas Instruments TI 99/4A

I recently received a TI 99/4A and some awesome accessories like the Speech Synthesizer, the FlashROM 99 and the Expansion CF7, Compact Flash Memory Expansion Unit.

This was my first computer when I was a kid. I had lots of fun with it. The original joysticks were really hard on the hand though. We eventually got an adapter so we could use in standard Atari/C64 joysticks.

i got this computer for xmas as a kid and had a lot of fun with it. i learned some BASIC and used to program graphics code as well hoping to design my own baseball game. a cassette recorder i also used to download simple games via audio. i played it on a 19" color tv. as it was a bargain bin clearance computer, the games were dirt cheap as well so i had some cartridges too. what a trip if i had stuck with that machine and learned pc data entry and language programming i think my life would have gone a lot differently. maybe in another universe, lol.

The Texas Instruments computer was actually the most popular before the Commodore 64, that's why there are still so many of them around. It was the TI that Commodore was specifically targeting, because TI wouldn't give Commodore a big enough bulk discount on parts, so they bought up a bunch of technology companies, so they would have control over parts pricing, and dropped the Commodore 64 into the market at an unbelievable price point, and aggressively lowered the price every year, until they drove almost everyone else out of business.

2:48 the joysticks were an option. They did not come with the machine.

I guess you only can CALL MOUNT out of Extended Basic. TI Basic has no access commands for the floppy drive.Maybe I´m wrong, because last time I have used the TI 99/4a was back in 1984....a long time ago

Bonjour, petite question, est ce quelqu un saurait si les cartouches de jeux du ti-99 sont compatibles avec un autre ordinateur ou une autre console que celle ci ?? ou sont t ils exclusivement conçu pour ne fonctionner que sur le ti-99 ?? les consoles atari par exemple ont la possibilité la plupart du temps de permettre d interchanger les jeux atari sur d autres consoles atari.. merci d avance pour celui qui aurait l info :)

Man, was it powerful! 16K RAM memory ( that's right, 16K... Most computers now come with a minimum of 4 GIGABYTES of RAM.)
