There are no top languages, but in every tongue there are poets.

There should be a VS Code inspirational quote plugin that generates poems like this using AI to keep you going

Yup! Every language has its pros and cons. Not one language is superior to all the others.

Still understanding why there is still no programming language that is obsolete in every way possible. But I guess we will just wait in the future.

I must be a programmer and not a language analyst!

Part of me expected that after the hearthfelt speech about developers he would just go "oh and by the way it's Rust" with Crab Rave playing in the background.

The current most used tool for the type of job you want is in fact the top programming language to learn for you.
There are also programming languages to avoid (unless learning them as a hobby of course): you're likely never gonna see a single line of Simula, Smalltalk or other such languages in a company codebase in your entire lifetime. Not to mention dead programming languages, etc...

The issue is not that people try to determine what programming language is best to learn, but that they often do so with very little concern for real-world problems that they want to solve.
The most often cited one would have to be JS. Yes, you could technically do everything in JS, but that doesn't mean it's a good tool to use for everything.
It's not uncommon to see companies moving parts of their stack away from JS again to more "traditional" languages again. The place I'll be working at later this year moved their entire backend from NodeJS to Rust as it was a much better fit for the real constraints the application would have to face.

Learning the "top" languages is good to get a job, but to become one of those really high-skill programmers you will have to learn dozens of languages with differing syntax, paradigms, etc...

I mean... have you ever tried to make a web api with DB CRUD operations and a web view in COBOL? There are clearly languages that are far worse than others. What would take 120, 000 lines of COBOL would take 300 in Java or C#.
