Forty-two Wolves Howling

It only takes one howl, at the right pitch, to make great things happen.

Wait for it!

Meet Nikai! He's a captive-born gray wolf at the Wolf Conservation Center (WCC), a 501c3 non-profit organization, in South Salem, NY. He is one of the three 'ambassador wolves' at the WCC that help teach the public about wolves and their vital role in the environment.

I had a coydog (rez dog found as a starving pup, genetically was part coyote, GSD, malamute) out on the border of the rez growing up. She lived to be 18.
Coydogs dont act like dogs though, they are way more wild, and unless you live out in the middle of nowhere and understand wild canid behavior I wouldnt recommend having one. They arent pets, more like an odd wild friend with no social mores whatsoever.

When the coyotes would yip and howl to each other at night, shed go sing along too. Doesnt sound like a wolf howl though, it was not as melodic and interspersed with yips and almost what sounded like cackles. Hers would also have a little malamute yodeling sound in it too.

Shed also howl sometimes looking for us if she didnt know where we were or wanted to come inside, or if you made howling noises at her, shed start howing back at you. Definately an interesting experience to share part of my life with her.

I could see the sun setting through the dense forest, streams of dying light flickering on the foliage. Darkness came quick and with it so to did my pace. I emerged from the tree line into a small clearing circled by the forest, the grass seemed to glow from the pale moonlight, and shadows of monsters from my imagination coalesced in the trees abound. Gazing up at the moon, the howls of forty two wolves fill my being. I am home.

Beautiful sight. And one one cannot mistake Nikai's howl. It is very distinct. Thank you so much.

0:04 When you had to sing in the school play and you are on stage looking for your parents in the audience.
