Why men MAKE MORE than women: understanding the gender pay gap

Buy my book, "The Value of Others"

If you're like me, you grew up hearing (over and over again) that women earn 82 cents for every dollar earned by a man. However, it turns out that this is a third-grade statistic coupled with an equally elementary interpretation. When the analysis is appropriately controlled, the pay gap between the sexes shrinks in insignificance. That said, men still continue to earn more than women in both absolute and relative terms. In this episode, I will discuss why this will always be the case.

Women: "It's not fair that men get to be in the workforce and make money"
*women get into the workforce*
Women: "It's not fair that men make more than we do"
*pay gap shrinks*
Women: "Men don't make enough to be attractive to me"
*men start making more*
Women: "It's not fair that men are making more than we do!"
Men: "this is pointless, women will never be satisfied"
*men exit the dating market*
Women: "Where are all the good men?"

Both Google and the BBC did self studies to investigate the 'pay gap'. They both shut down their investigations really fast when they found women get do much less work for more pay.

Genius episode. Husbands are taller because women select taller men. Husbands earn more because women select richer men. Husbands live longer because women select healthier men. Women do not make husbands taller, do not maker husbands richer, and do not slow down the aging process in husbands.

The largest difference in income is in business owners. Male business owners make SIGNIFICANTLY more than their female counterparts. When you ask a female business owner why she started her own business the most common answer you'll receive is to have more time or more control of her time. When you ask a male the same question the response will almost always be to make more money. Different priorities make a significant difference in outcome. Who knew?

Ask any female business owner or entrepreneur if she pays her female employees the same as her male employees, purely based on gender and she will quickly say no, because being in business she knows it makes economic sense to reward competence, not gender equality, there goes the pay gap debate out the window.

Meanwhile when feminists are told that 80% of women are competing for the top 20% of men they reply that men should "just" do better. What they are saying in essence is that men should try to increase the gender pay gap.

The fact that this statistic survived peer review says something about the state of the social sciences

Men have a social responsibility to provide for women and children. Women have social responsibility to look out for themselves. Who do you think is going to work more?

I went on a date with a girl and she complained to me that gender pay gap is a serious problem and that women are discriminated. I never thought about this topic and didn’t know what to say about it. But now I do. Thank you so much ❤

They don’t know, because they don’t WANT to know. They created the original pay gap argument for a reason.
The unpaid labour in the home is equal to the unpaid rent, bills, taxes, and insurance that the unpaid labourer enjoys.

Women are getting college degrees more often than men, are out-earning men in major metro areas and have higher rates of home ownership. But men tend to go into higher paying fields than women.

Plus, it's acceptable for women to marry men to support them It's generally not ok for men to marry women to depend on a woman for support.

"Divorce is 50% more likely when the woman out earns the man" ... I've watched this up close. Men who have been reliable, hard working, majority providers in relationships, who after decades of giving her everything she wants and providing for their offspring, lose their job due to economic forces, and within months she's belittling and hounding him about being not being able to get a job and "Do his part".

This fits my experience with my wife. I would add that when married no kids we were both very successful. When we had kids, our attitudes towards life changed. She was less concerned about earning money, career and more focused on my son and “being there for him”. I was immediately more interested in my career to provide for her wants “ to stay at home and raise our child”. Along with a desire to provide a stable future for my newly born son. So effectively, with the birth of a child we both got effectively less selfish.

I am an executive recruiter. I have never placed a woman at a salary less than a man. Usually more and she was usually less vetted by the Hiring Manager. We all know why…

Y'know how Alaskan crab fishing in one of the most dangerous and difficult jobs on the planet? And it pays proportionately well?

You ever notice how no feminists demand equal representation on crab boats?

Yeah. It's not a question of what pays well for women. It's a question of what pays well while also being stress-free to the point where it barely qualifies as a job.

Great insight. Anecdotally, friends from college do this - she’s a doctor and he’s a teacher. He stayed home with the kids.

Funny thing - just this morning I watched a man plow the snow in the road. All the men in the neighborhood shoveled or snow-blowed their driveways. The trash removal guys picked up my trash. And the mailman delivered my mail. Didn't see one woman.
