How to Remove a Hood by Yourself.

Today I build an engine hoist hood removal tool. It's priceless to be able to remove a hood by yourself and you can build this tool with scraps you have laying around your shop!

Great idea But if you need to move out of the garage to outside by yourself is difficult. Reinstallation after paint by yourself will be tricky. The video gets the gears turning for ideas and sometimes you just have no choice but to work by yourself. Thanks for sharing.

The cherry picker really helped things a lot. Thank you so much for sharing the video:)

I wasn’t sure where you were going with that until the last second haha that worked perfectly! 😎

Great video, just the inspiration I needed to continue on a project of mine. I may try to build an adjustable X style jig rather than a fixed H style, to be a little more universal for different hoods, could also be used as a truck bed lifting jig, which I would also use. Thanks for the info, can't wait to see the progress on the truck!

Excellent project! Would be ideal if my garage were accessable, and knew how to weld!
An excellent project to demonstrate would be a tall adjustable creeper that slides under the engine, that allows for laying face down over the engine compartment. People like me with perm damaged backs appreciate such a tool. Also the folding tire mounted step ladders for trucks. These are sold by major tool suppliers, but obv. can be fabricated out of other surplus gadgets and gizmos!

Great idea. I’m thinking of making mine out of a 4’x6’ piece of plywood that I already have, stick some feet at the ends too. Just need the shop crane!

Thanks for responding. I'm in the same boat, restoring a 77 C10.

I put a couple o ring screws in the ceiling rafters and just used straps to lift it off and have it suspended now in the ceiling out of the way. It's only like 80lbs, not that heavy.

Great video, I'm gonna fab up something similar. Now how do you get hood safety from hoist to work bench? Guess I will have to grab a neighbor after all lol

I’d use pool noodles to protect the hood from damage.
