This program is intended to help parents better understand disordered eating, and why it can be a cause for concern for their children. We discussed how to identify behaviors around a child’s relationships with food and body, and how that impacts mental health and wellbeing. Through increasing our own knowledge around disordered eating and eating disorders, parents may feel more confident engaging their children in conversations. Online attendees were asked to reflect on their own relationships with food and body, and the normalization of diet culture.
Common misconceptions around these topics were discussed, including demystifying the taboo and stigma around bodies, food, and self-worth.
This program was funded by the Chester County Department of Drug & Alcohol Services.
