John Deaken was a top rate bass guitarist. A bass guitar only has four strings with a very long rod. I don't know how John ever managed to play it. His base worked in close harmony with Roger's bass drum giving that unique deep at times accompanied by a shuffling rhythm like sound and then you have Brian's superb guitar playing and Freddie's golden voice. The sound and harmonies of Queen mixed together were a, cocktail of sounds which would have taken many hours of practice before they all achieved and agreed on the sound instantly recognisable as Queen..

Your right Deaky never seemed to receive the recognition he deserved as one of rock's finest bass players.
