All three sound very authentic but my preference goes to the Ernie Ball Cobalt Super Slinky 9-42.
I use D'Addario EXL120 9-42 which is a good compromise between bottom end and playability.

I have The d'addario 10-13-17-30-42-50. Better or worse to play like Johnny??

with all due respect why not compare the extra Slinky 8's to the Cobalt extra slinky 8's instead of the Cobalt 9's

wouldn't that be a better comparison??? just sayin

Difficult to express the difference in words. With speakers as well as with headphones, the D'Addarios sound empty. Both EB sets match better with pickup and the rest. I vote for the Extra Slinky set.
