"The grass-seed capital capitol of the world"? I never knew that. The Egg in the picture looks like a giant eyesore. In real life, it looks even worse. It can be adequately viewed from the surrounding high-rise office buildings in the Plaza. Crossgates Mall?? Seriously???? Listen folks; I've lived here for almost two decades. Thatcher Park is beautiful; no question. Downtown Albany however, is a total dead zone - especially after 6PM. If you're into grass-seed then this (may) be the place for you but frankly there are other FAR more interesting and LIVELY places in the US to spend time in.

Great video... thank you for putting that together! I've lived in Albany for over 3 decades now, and I've never heard it referred to as the "Grass Seed Capitol"... hmmm. Not sure about putting a mall in the Top 10. I would have put the Center Square/Lark Street area in the list for sure, and maybe even Pearl Street.

Albany would be a much more international city had not Governor N. Rockefeller gutted 3, 000 units of housing and displaced 9, 000 people and built the South Mall. This eminent domain/bond scheme essentially eviscerated Albany and it has never recovered. NYC is the capital of NY State not Albany.

Wrong Albany for grass seed- Oregon's Albany.

went to university here 30 years ago. place was a dump back then and I couldnt wait to leave. Unless something has massively changed (and I doubt it) I highly suggest everyone avoid this city at all costs. I've lived in quite a few places in a few countries (NYC, Long Island, Westside of LA/Santa Monica, Tokyo, Yokohama, Other suburbs of Tokyo, and Saint Petersburg Russia) and Albany was the only place I did not enjoy living. Climate/bad weather was the biggest downer - its almost always cold, often dry, with snow/ice on the ground (even though it never seemed to snow?) for a large part of the year and often overcast. But also lack of activities and lack of good food both on and off campus also were major factors. The students from the metropolitan areas like NYC metro, etc were cool and most of the local people in the city were nice as well. However, some of the students from the countryside of NY State were serious uneducated hicks (way more than i expected) many of whom seriously did not like black people and/or had a serious unhealthy obsession with jews. Trying to communicate with them was like talking to someone from a different planet. Oddly enough I only hit upon this video when doing research for a possible trip to Western Australia for when Australia opens back up to tourists (Albany in Western Australia is one of my target destinations). Seriously- avoid this place.

Albany Oregon is the grass seed capital of the world; the State Museum is a half-day excursion you will have no desire to revisit (practically never updated); the Egg is kinda cool (though an eyesore), but it's all about who comes to play there, and it was "state of the art" in 1978 and still looks that way; the heritage visitor center is a 15-min stop that's kind of depressing because it's an admission of how little Albany actually has to offer (it's the political capital of NYS, people! that's literally all it is); the Pine Bush is known for TICKS! - if you get out of there without one, go play the LOTTO, immediately; the Capitol is an architectural gem, the end; Crossgates LMAO don't be there on weekend evenings unless you want to see Albany gang initiations (you've been warned!); Thatcher State Park is gorgeous but technically like 35 minutes outside of Albany. Albany sucks, people. It truly, truly does.
