In this video I defend Luce from the vitriol she's been receiving online.

Check out the Catholic Diocese of Discord server:

If you want the mug, here's where I bought it from:

What wholesome media would you like to see made about Luce?

Never in a thousand years could i dream the Vatican would choose an anime girl as a mascot

I'm not even Catholic (non-denom protestant) and while I was suspicious of Luce at first, she quickly warmed up to me. I lowkey wish that there was a little tv-show with her as the mc as like, a modern Veggie Tales. Cuz that's the vibe she gives me.

Also, Luce is an actual Italian name? Feels like the people hating on her for her name don't know anything about Italian culture.

Luce: * literally the most harmless and innocent thing on the world *

People who need love in their lifes: WHAT A GREAT EXCUSE TO CREATE CONTROVERSY 😈😈😈

She is just a nice girl that loves God, nothing wrong with that. Seeing a world that is so broken and full of grime, a nice clean cute design is a good change of pace.
People that think that having a character that beams kindness and innocence is "emasculating" are strange to me.
Also "Luce and Lucifer share the same root word therefore she is evil" is the type of logic I would've expected from a prot. "Luce" as a name is no different than "Luz".

Saying "luce means Lucifer" is literally like saying "van means vandalism"

A fun little detail in Luce's design is that in each of her eyes you can see the shape of a scallop shell, which is the symbol of Camino de Santiago - the pilgrim's way to Santiago de Compostela sanctuary.

Luce is great, the results justify themselves, it's truly amazing to see what's come of this stroke of genius.

"...anime simply *feels* evil and demonic even if you can't really explain why logically."

Wow, 11/10 reasoning right there! Consider me convinced! /s

Also, thank you for the clarification @1:57

Anime is merely a medium. Not the replacement of what Catholicism should be. If that is the case, should we also be ashamed of Tolkien, a man so devoted to the Catholic faith, for creating Lord of the Rings? After all, those novels features blatant paganism and demonic entities. Seriously, people need to chill.

I thought you mean "Bloody boots after a massive crusade to retake the Holy land of Jerusalem" but yeah, muddy boots on a pilgrimage works too.

I get your point that it’s not a big deal, but if this chibi mascot successfully converts half of Japan and the weebs of the states, I will more than happily fly to the Vatican and directly apologize to the patriarch for calling him ‘Filthy Frank’.

I'm an Italian Chatolic, we've got quite some names that starts with "Lu" like Lucrezia, Lucia, Luisa, Lucio, Luigina, Luigi ecc... saying that Luce is demonic just because It has the same root of Lucifer is simply stupid. I actually like anime, and also enjoy traditions such as the TLM served by FSSP. I think it's also stupid to say that anime is evil because of the devious drawings that some perverts draw to make money, it is like saying that portraying a statue of Jesus or a saint using marble is somehow blasphemy because the Greeks and Romans used it to portray they're false gods.
