My Largest Lisianthus Harvest!!! A Home Gardener's Cut Flower Garden in Zone 5B! You Can Do It Too!

Garden Gals and Guys, I'm shouting it from the rooftops...today I have my largest Lisianthus harvest to date here in Zone 5B!!! I'm talking an armful of blooms and I couldn't be happier! Come along with me in my cut flower garden as I harvest:

Voyage 2 White Lisianthus
Voyage 2 Champagne Lisianthus
Rosanne Black Pearl Lisianthus
Rosanne Brown Lisianthus (makes an appearance - isn't ready for harvesting yet)

It's my third season growing these and I've finally hit my stride! The first year I started with a whopping 4 plants that made it to bloom, last year I probably had around 30 - ish, and this year I've got nearly 100 or so! When starting Lisianthus from seed this year, I believe soil blocking made the difference for me. This was the first year I used soil blocks and the difference in my germination rate was staggering! I simply transplanted the soil blocks up into larger cell trays after a month or two and they took off better than ever for me. I'll use the same method of seed starting for them next year as well!

It's a labor of love with Lisianthus, but if you're up for a challenge and enjoy delayed gratification (it takes 6 months to see a bloom from the time you plant the seed) then definitely get your hands on Lisianthus seed and give it a go! My personal favorite place to find Lisianthus seed is from Johnny's Select Seeds, which also has amazing growing information available.

Growing Guide:

Disaster does strike at one point in this video, but we get through it. My beloved Lisianthus blooms suffer some casualties, but it ends up segwaying us into getting the ever-beautiful armful of blooms photo and thumbnail, which is a first for me, so I'll take it!

If you enjoyed this video or found it helpful, please subscribe to my channel and "like" this video! Comment below and let me know how your Lisianthus are coming along and if you've been able to harvest anything yet from your cut flower gardens!

Thanks for watching! Happy Planting!

I do the same thing with my flowers - I give them away. This world needs more spontaneous bouquets! I'm a nurse, so I give the majority to my patients!!

Hello from Colorado! I just discovered your channel.and I’m hooked! I love your energy and passion for gardening. You also reacted the same way I would have, when your beautiful Lisianthus bucket fell over! 😏 Your flowers are gorgeous! I can’t wait to watch all your past videos. I will be sure to buckle up! 😉😊

I planted lisianthus this year for the first time after watching your videos. I’m so happy I did! They are my new favorite! So beautiful! The vase life, the insect resistance, the coloring, just can’t be beat.

It's like you read my mind. I grew lisianthus for the first time and love them but had no idea how to cut them. Thank you so much.

I'm a newbie gardener. I asked a local florist what their favorite cut flower it was lisianthes (which I wasn't familiar with). Well, after seeing yours, I know why they love lisianthes. Great video. Funny, and real. The flower upset. Glad they survived and still looked beautiful!

I think every gardener felt your pain when the bucket fell over. A few weeks ago I tried tying my rose bush climber back and I broke a huge branch off of it! I ugly cried. 😂

Oh my lord, those are so gorgeous. I really went crazy this year with trying so many different cut flowers. Went a bit crazy with over 600 sweet peas just for starters. 😂 This is one that is a must for me but of course Johnny's was out of all the seeds I wanted with the Lisianthus so I'm going to start buying seeds NOW. Thats 6 months and ALOT of patience. I'm not quite sure if I'm ready. This video has made me think, yes absolutely.😂 I totally need more raised beds. I'm putting them out on my side yard next year. It's nuts that I'm already excited for next spring. Plus, I've decided I'm going to start things even earlier and push the limits. 🤗

Hey Steph! OMG your lissies are GOR--GE--OUS! i had to remove and transplant my lissies after we fell a mimosa tree a few feet away and a giant Leland cypress tree on the other side of the yard.. The area now receives at least 8 hrs. of sun! Yeah! The lissies and the dahlias survived the transplanting ordeal with temps in the 90s! Looking forward to next year's garden. Well done, Steph! Love them Lisianthus!
