Already down two games with very little time left to make a comeback, Nepo knows he needs to go all out for any chance to equalize this match. Unexpected to say at least... Ian making a move that clearly traps his own piece, not even in my dreams I would imagine something like it.

All commentators saw this trapped bishop while looking at different variations. It's incredible that Ian missed it. What's more incredible is that he doesn't spend more time pondering his positions in such important games.

Shockingly bad blunders from Nepo in consecutive games (Game 8 & 9). Worst of all, these blunders are obvious especially when it is only 1-2 move deep. He played great in games 1-5, seems like it all went to his head after the magnificent game 6 win for carlsen.

i'm nowhere near GM level, but this look of suppressed horror on Ian's face, fast breathing, the realization of what he's just done to himself, the eyes hopelessly scanning the board in search of the impossible - it's all a painfully familiar state of mind for anyone playing chess tournaments :)

Wow... just wow... just when you thought things could not get any worse possible for Nepo this happens... -_- That's it, shows over folks... time to return to Christmas and New Year because there is NO WAY Nepo is gonna make a comeback and secure wins in three out of the remaining five games. The last player to be up 3 points was Zukertort in 1883 (EDIT: 1886!)... so it's not like it was yesterday! That freaking Morphy timeline!
