Jesus didn't have any siblings - Mary remained a virgin her entire life. The Aramaic language did not distinguish between "brother" and "cousin" - the same word applied. Thus James was Jesus's cousin, not his brother - otherwise why would Jesus have said to John "This is your mother" and not to James, if he was his flesh and blood brother?
