In this episode, Ben gives you the single most important tip you'll ever hear in regard to writing.

The most important tip to keep with you when studying for your IELTS exam is remembering that grammar is king. You can have the best argument, ideas, and structure, but without proper grammar, your essay will not be understood. To determine that your grammar needs some improvement, get feedback from someone. When trying to improve your grammar skills, you can either use a method involving hearing or a method involving seeing. For those of you who do better hearing, listen to IELTS essays using headphones and write these essays down as you listen to them. For those of you who do better with seeing, look up sample essays, read them, and cover one sentence at a time while you try to rewrite the sentence the exact way you see it written. If you use these tips daily and practice, you will see great improvement in your grammar skills before taking the IELTS exam.

Good suggestions! I definitely agree that grammar is the king. From my previous experience, I always tried to hard to impress the examiners. I potentially avoid simple sentences structures and put a lot of descriptive words together, and it turned out I can hardly explain mine ideas and frequently stuck in there. After figuring out the problem, I turned back to read the sample essay and realise most of the sentences are simple, straightforward and relevant which makes it easy to understand. The other problem of mine writing is sometimes I am over creative and tend to apply some invention of cohesion, it has been pointed out very unauthentic and even incorrect, now I start to use your second strategy, read more sample, cover it and simulate it. Hope it can work!

I want to take this opportunity to exprees my garetfull and sincere thankfulness to you and to the effort you made in the sentence guide. However, I think is still on weaker side in terms of providing reading tips and it is not as good as writing skills tips which is also very important to pass the IELTS test.

Even though grammar is the king in all aspects of English, it is very hard to simulate it for foreign students. I have to deal with many English speakers as a part of my job in my workplace, with encountering many problems especially in grammar section. Surprisingly, unlike other language speakers, English speakers use different slang word, which normally combined with other word, and it makes us difficult to improve grammar.
