Photoshop vs. Procreate for iPad Artists

Photoshop vs. Procreate. What's the best drawing app for beginner and professional artists? I bough an iPad and made the switch to Procreate, and here's why!

*1. Desempeño:* Mi computador era viejo y lento por eso Photoshop también era lento :( Comprar un computador nuevo seria más caro que comprar un iPad + Procreate. El iPad es mucho más rápido que mi computador y Procreate corría mejor!

*2. Conveniencia:* A parte de que mi computador no aguantaba Photoshop muy bien por lo del desempeño, era un fastidio tener que conectar la tablet al computador y prender todo, sentarme en la mesa… Con el iPad comenzó a dibujar todos los días porque es muy portátil: solo lo prendo y dibujo en la pantalla. Puedo dibujar en el sofá, parque, tren, donde sea;

*3. Pantalla Táctil:* con Procreate puedo hacer zoom, rotar el dibujo, y usar gestos para hacer y deshacer cosas, en vez de usar atajos en el teclado como lo hacía en Photoshop. Para mí esta es una manera más intuitiva de dibujar;

*4. Procreate:* me gustan más los pinceles y las texturas de Procreate, y compré in iPad solo para poder usarlo. Procreate es solamente dedicado al dibujo y por eso es más fácil de aprender que Photoshop. Photoshop sirve para editar fotografías y tiene muchas más funcionalidades pero ni todas son esenciales para quien dibuja;

*5. Precio:* Además de la inversión del iPad (que para mí era más barato que comprar un computador nuevo), le programa es más barato porque Procreate me costó 11€, enquanto que Photoshop tiene una mensualidad y queda mucho más caro.

Digo también al final que cuando cambié de Programa no existía Photoshop para el iPad por eso mi comparación es toda sobre el computador. Además digo que Procreate no es tan avanzado todavía y por eso si necesitas hacer animaciones, editar fotografía, o usar tipografía, Photoshop será mejor.

Having to plug everything, turn the computer on, turn the software on... You described why I do not use my tablet very often. If I have a short 30 minute period in which I could draw, but a good part of that will be spent preparing the equipment, I simply will not bother. But with an iPad and Procreate I am looking forward to even taking advantage of short 5 minute periods I can use to draw here and there. I am so excited to get my iPad soon.

I like using Photoshop for the iPad. I love procreate but something about the feeling of drawing on it is a bit off.. very tiny bit that I cant pin point. So I tend to go back and forth between the two. The biggest advantage of Photoshop is that it saves on the cloud. And when you go on to any desktop whether it be Mac or PC, you can access your painting there and continue your work.

I think it is also very important to know that you can import PS files and use them in Procreate and export Procreate files as PS so they are totally interchangeable.

and you can animate!! It changed my whole art game as an oil painter, its nice to just let it out n play with illustratey playful feel to it. The blending and airbrush + studio pen is decent though. I would like to make digital/light paintings of super realistic hd imagination/fantasy scenes maybe even animate them. There is only so far you can go with that on procreate for now but it will get better.
And just being able to draw so comfortably, you can really get in the divine creative zone, with the smooth creamy apple screen, not the harsh ones other companies have. It just finally got me on to digital painting, ive always wanted it just felt clunky with the tech before.


I was hoping adobe illustrator would be full on atleast for simple brush n blending but it is awful, super pixeley!

Very informative. I'm thinking of getting a drawing tablet for my PC but your arguments for getting an iPad and using procreate has me wondering if I should just spend more for the ability to draw wherever I want instead of having a device attached to my desktop. I feel like I would draw more often if did all my work on an iPad pro.
