Thanks for turning me onto this product. When I heard you say "100 year warranty" I thought, "yeah, and it's void as soon as you sell your house and probably depreciates to nothing after 10 years." So I checked them out and was pleasantly surprised to see that the warranty is both transferrable and non-prorated. Those clauses are how most building material manufacturers can offer really long warranties that are, in reality, practically useless.

I think your perspective of what makes the "best" roof might be a product of your arid climate, though. There are many heating climates where homeowners would much prefer a thermal mass over a radiant barrier on their roof.

We were going to have a metal roof. Are you saying that’s probably not a good idea? Because it traps the heat in there?

The only problem I see is walking on the roof. Is that a problem. Shingles are aluminum and aluminum is not a strong metal so will they bend or dent when walking on them.

How do they compare to the Reinke aluminum shingle? Reinke claims no special install technique and are easily replaced for small section. Seem to be a good deal thicker than the interlocking aluminum.
