I've just got a timing chain from bga with sprokets guides and tensioners for an audi 2005 a6 3.0 tdi it was almost a quarter the price of the original kit from tps or other brands that I was initially going to go with like fai auto or febi..but the mechanic who is going to fit it said it will probably be rattling again within 70k miles due to bad design..what's your view on this and what else should I consider changing whilst the engine is out the chain had start up rattle from 71000 Miles and every mechanic that heard it dismissed it then at 140k it started rattling constantly on tick over like a bag of spanners..I would appreciate your opinion.

Thanks
Kind regards,
Chris.

To the naked eye I can definitely tell the difference between a cheap chain and a quality one, but guides are harder for me to distinguish, if we're comparing an OE PA66 guide to a Chinese PA66 guide, what method should I use to properly compare quality? A cut test?

Brilliant video.
I've got timing chain rattle noise on my astra k 2016 1.6 diesel eco flex at 70k miles 😢.
Should I go for the vauxhall timing chain kit or the BG automotive one???

Hi des,
Is the duplex timing chain kit sold by yd25 in Australia any good?

Why is the "quality" chain covered in oil, while the "cheap" one is all clean? We all know that engine will rattle without oil.

Wait a minute so is BGA going to replace your broken parts if it does fail? Just cause you said British 1 year warranty 🤔

I have a '91 Ford Ranger, 4.0L, auto with 200K. Doing an engine refresh. I was told that the OEM timing chain and gears will last 400K miles and only need to replace the chain guides? Many years ago, I bought on EBay a new ADP Timing Chain Kit. Is this brand name junk and don't recommend using it or can I get by using only the chain guides from the kit?

2 years ago i ordered cheap timign chain kit from ebay and and exhaust side new camshaft adjuster was faulty, causing p0014 codes and bad valve advanced timing readings near 10% overadvanced or opposite, while timign was on correct marks. Spended lots of money by trying to figure out it, so service just go back to old camshaft adjusters as they was in good shape and problems solved, driven 60k kilometers, cheap chain itself looks good and tight as i checked few days ago. I think most problems can cause cheap camshaft adjusters VVT and weak sprockets.. Its lottery, but some parts work great, like cheap steering pump i ordered from ebay, it works great after 5 years, no noises. Every people should take risks themself when they ordering cheap parts, thats it, if car is old, its headache to invest in part and service job, who cost half of ur car market price :D

When do you need to change the timing chain on a Nissan Pathfinder 2006 dci? Great channel by the way!

100% agree cheap after market timing chains, timing chain tensioners and poorly made chain guides destroy many engines in all types of cars.
i like the ratchet style tensioners myself, I've seen hydraulic without ratchet mechanism in them, dangerous.

Fair enough, how often did owner have the oil changed? what brand oil was being used?

Any engine oil flushes carried out before/after new chain was fitted just to make sure the oil channels were clear of as much gunk as possible?

Was the brand mentioned in the above incident known for suspect quality?

I’ve got a 2004 Mini Cooper and want to renew the timing chain, what brand do you recommend? Euro car parts are selling the a Starline chain kit. Is it worth risking an after market one or should I just get one direct from Mini? Cheers Des
