To me, Stephin is a modern-day Country singer. This is real country. Country in the sense that the chords are basically G, C, and D, with simply profound lyrics, and use of the major scale for melody. He is the Steven Foster of our time; The Brian Wilson of our generation; a folk-singer country star disguised as "Post-Modern", or whatever new label that has been made up. Thank you, Stephin, for opening my heart up with your song.

"Charm of the Open Highway" was Stephin first real album released and it was a Country album, with songs such as "Born on a Train", "Two characters in search of a Country Song", etc.. Please listen to this album before trying to be an expert and correct others' opinions, sir, when you have just listened to a few of this guy's song and I have heard all his albums and play this on guitar. Just admit you haven't listened to his Country album.

lovely...whatever genre it is. stephin blends the lines...don't ask why or how or especially argue over it... just enjoy it. i consider his music, overall, genre-less. and damn, i want that instrument...yummy.

I own everything he's released. I grew up in Nashville. I'm a musician. What you're calling his "country" music is, in fact, actually a form of folk. Now, admit you have an agenda that reflects some sort of ego need on your part. Go listen to a Knitters album, and then we'll discuss country.

No, this is, in no way, "country". I can scarcely imagine a less accurate (and less flattering) appraisal of his music, both ideologically, and artistically.

The only way you can't scarely imagine, is if you don't understand the basic chords and structure, and lyrics, are the the same thing Hank WIlliams Sr. was creating. Get out of town with your insulting reply. I doubt you are a guitar player, since you don't understand. By the way, who are you to call Country music "less flattering"? A real musican you are not, sir.
