The first atomic bomb test, 'Trinity, ' was so secret that scientists told locals in New Mexico the explosion was caused by an accidental detonation of a munitions dump. And somehow, the locals went, 'Yeah, sounds legit!'. What’s the weirdest nuke fact you know?

Von Braun was a rocket engineer, not a aircraft engineer. During the war, Germany outsourced bomber designs to the various German aircraft manufacturers, particularly Heinkel and Junkers. Unfortunately, the prominent philosophy in German strategy was that all aircraft were effectively for ground support. Thus, their emphasis on short to medium range bombers. They only came to the idea of strategic bombing as the tide started to turn against them. They concepted the long range bomber in earnest in 1942, but by the time any prototypes were built, resources were so scarce, that mass producing them would have been impossible.

Every once in awhile the infographics show likes to scare us with a Man in the High Castle scenario. They do a good job

If he didn't listen to his Generals, then he was never going to listen to his scientist. He still would have lost in my opinion.

Nope. A bomber of that size never would have made it to London. Between radar, the dominance of allied air power it never would have happened. Maybe a V2 if early 1945

They made a movie about this. It’s called Europa the last battle

Fun fact: the Japanese wooden planes may not have worked well, but Americans also made their own wooden planes and because of the engineering and skill of the pilots they were near unstoppable.

Nazi Germany started encountering supply shortages and logistics challenges far earlier than 1945. Shifting resources towards a nuclear program and designing long range bombers would divert resources that in real life helped to stall the Allied advance towards Germany, and would in this hypothetical only serve to accelerate the loss of territory. The Luftwaffe were all but destroyed by 1945, having lost a majority of their trained pilots, a large percentage of their planes, and were (along with the mechanized infantry) suffering severe gas and oil shortages. There is no way that the Luftwaffe would be able to make it across the Atlantic, even shortening it by taking off from the Azores. Plus, building new planes was a tremendous undertaking in 1945 for Germany, as they were also encountering shortages of aluminum, to the point that they were scavenging aluminum from downed Allied planes. They even tried to make up for this by making planes out of wood, but their decreased industrial capacity made even this a failure.

First, you guys showed a p-38 as a bomber. Now a b-17 dropping a nuke on London? You guys are a history channel you guys should know who owns what

I just want to point out that a nuclear bomb being shot down would not cause it to detonate, it would just break it

Dang. No Truman means no Majestic 12.
Eisenhower might never become president.

What's crazy to think about is that whoever got the nuke first could have easily taken over the world
