I was stationed in West Berlin, in the Army. The church was indeed left that way to remind people of the horror and futility of war. I miss Berlin so much.

I was a soldier in Berlin for 3 years. I walked past the church ruins many times. I have looked inside it and have been in the church that was built beside it.

England has many churches like this . Most famous is coventry cathedral .

The churches (mostly) was sold to the people. it depends on the location, some of them are now warehouses, grocery stores, gyms., casinos, good quality entertainment ( party, , dinner pub dinner, for public use and special events also)
