Battle Of The Big Planes: The Antonov AN-225 vs Airbus A380

The A380 is known for its impressive size, range, and carrying capacity. But to call it the king of the skies would be a misnomer when the Antonov AN-225 exists. The Ukrainian built freighter is so colossal that it puts most aircraft to shame… but is it better than an A380? Let us explore.

I mean they're both meant for entirely different purposes

The comparison should have been between two cargo planes, not a cargo plane and a passenger plane

These planes: We're big
Saturn IV: hold my beer!

The issue here is comparing two very different birds: the An-225 is a specialized cargo plane, capable of carrying stuff no other cargo plane can (at least currently). As such costs aren't much of an issue, since if you employ this beast it means you don't have another option.

On the other side the A380 is the largest passenger plane currently in service, as such it has to worry about cost per seat and so on (since it would have to compete with wide body twins like the 777 and A350, which seemed to have killed the four engined passenger planes)

This comparison makes absolutely no sense. It's like comparing a washing machine to a refrigerator. Both are household appliances, which is better?

It is very nice to watch such videos. I‘m just a boy from Russia who likes USSR airplanes.

I don’t think it’s 100% fair to compare any plane with the an225. The Antonov is like a concept. Only one was built.

Why no mention of fuel economy? You mentioned everything but that.

Pretty crappy comparison. The An225 is the biggest in the world. Nothing can compete it and it does a completely different job

Fuel is a bad comparison. I would expect a 25-year-old car to use my diesel than my current car. Also A380 cannot handly big loads

So things you missed.

A380F with 150t would have a range of 10000km, 225 with 150t can do 7000km.
225 has a max payload of over 250t
It has been stated in a pax config the 225 can carry over 1500 pax (not been done)

My opinion, the 225 can do anything the 380 can but the 380 can’t do half of what the 225 can

Some comments say there's only one AN-225, why would you need like 25 of those? Let's get to the fuel consumption or Range...get the AN-225 the A380 Engines or even newer models which will match the power and the Antonov will have a Range of approx. 20000 miles or more fully loaded! It's like some mentioned already a comparison of my 2019 BMW with an 1990 BMW on range/consumption not comparable at all, materials, engine efficiency and software are completely different worlds

Russian Wrestler vs European Wrestler.

But wait. To think about it range the A-380 is always loaded vs the An-225 so the An won.

Why, just whyyy? Do 747-8F vs An-124 vs C-5M

This seems so bias towards the a380 as u were comparing it to the a380f which doesn’t even exist

We should not forget that the engines of the AN225 are of much older design than those of the A380 and therefore less economical. By the way even moder Russian widebody aircraft use the 4 engine configuration because they don't yet have engines as powerful as their european and North American counterparts.

No mention of avionics or crew needed to fly ? AN 225 needs 6 crew members to fly, including 2 flight engineers due to the age of the aircraft. Also the airstrips which the aircraft can safely land in ??

Not a very informative video..

How can u compare them lmao completely different aircraft

One was designed in the 80s as an airborne freightliner, the other was designed in the 2000s as a flying superbus.

Efficiency was always going to be in the favor of the a380 since its a relatively new plane and its design revolved around it.

The mriya was technically a governement plane afterall. Since when did government of the 80s cared about efficiency?😂

This vid is basically comparing an 80s toyota hilux with a toyota sienna minivan from the 2000s. 😂😂
