This one is especially great if your TV uses a nice soundbar or surround sound system.

Watch PBS programming live or on-demand, through either the main version or the kids-oriented one. Just log in an input your zip code to get local PBS content as well.

#4 - Twitch

The best streaming service out there for gamers lets you tune in to live streams of your favorite games or gamers, doing simple playthroughs, competitions, or speedruns. It also features some podcasters and vidcasters.

OK, ... This is most misleading; these are not Chromecast channels at all. I can cast all those apps without a Chromecast.
I would go with a ROKU device over a Chromecast any day. Roku has all the apps you mentioned, and a ton more, no need to fill up your phone with apps. If You have a smart TV, and screen cast ability on your phone, there is no reason to purchase a chromecast. Chromecast also requires that your phone be on the same wifi to work it will not work with your Mobil hotspot whereas a ROKU will work with a moble hotspot. If you have limited data be careful, 8Gig will get you about three days of heavy use. I learned to skip, and fast forward quite well, I could get three weeks of yuoutube on 8Gig of data. That however is no longer an issue. we have unlimited everything and a couple premium services. I highly recommend Youtube without adds. If you pay for youtube, watch out, you will never be able to go back to YouTube with adds again. omg, it's so miserable by comparison.
So why would I buy a chromcast? I gave it some thought. I can't think of any reason to purchase a chromecast. I have one and I will use it, but not very much I put it on the non smart TV and so far I have only used it for its screen saver function, which has nice pictures, and that's about it, I have a PC tied to that TV, so there is no reason to cast. If I have people here customers whatever and I by chance search something on my phone I would use the chromecast to share the images on the fly. other than that, Chrome cast is basically useless. yes useless

Showing my ignorance here. So you don't really add channels to the Chromecast, you're just downloading apps to your phone/tablet/whatever and then just casting from the app?

will it work on a samsung HD Ready smart tv with inbuilt cast...will i be able to cast my PC using chrome browser onto the tv via google chromecast...samsung smart tv does not support wat i cast from my pc chrome browser...youtube works fine...thats it

The Tubitv is very good, great controls, EG resume watching etc, Chromecast is perfectly incorporated for PC and phone. Great streaming, really like it, thanks.

So an HDMI cord will not achieve the same option? Pluto TV is geo blocked in the Pacific region, a number of the apps you mention I watch on my laptop and MOB phone without using Chromecast as I watch on my Windows 10 PC with a simple download option. However I guess casting is another option. I assume you are in the US because without using a VPN the apps may not play in my region or be downloadable from the Google Play Store. I wish you YouTube bloggers considered that your speil can be nullified by geo-blocking in a number of different countries

I have chromecast but I can only find the TV plug in thing. Is there another part I need to plug into my device (laptop ) ? I can't find the box it came in either. I got a new laptop, so how do I put chromecast on it ?

I didn't need the newer Google TV as I had some Rokus. So picked up two Google Gen Threes. It worked how I wanted it. But looking for more tips. I have one in bedroom and the other in living room.

Here's a tip : last week I wanted to watch groove 3 videos on my TV but unfortunately they are not cast enabled.. on Android you can mirror your phone screen to the Chromecast so that gets around that issue, however this does tie your phone up.. another better way I solved this was to use my PlayStation console web browser, and hey presto high quality streaming of groove3 videos directly on my TV. :) Happy days

I have an old phone that I use just for apps that I stream to my projector. The speakers barely work on this phone but still cast to other devices just fine.

Not trying to be a smart ass but I really don't see a point to people buying a chromecast if your phone & tv is linked to same WiFi connection, you can just press the cast symbol from your phone so that you can watch it on your tv... everything you said, I already do without a chromecast.

Can someone explain why the hell I would buy this if I can just do this just by being connected to my home wifi?
