"Art is subjective. Business is not." - Grace Randolph

That's a legendary quote.

“Art is subjective, business is not.” This is why I follow you Grace. You have a unique presentation style amongst YouTubers in that you acknowledge a films artistic merits and flaws while providing the wider business perspective and consequences that have become so fascinating in recent years. Looking forward to another fascinating year in movies in 2023. Happy New Year to all 🎉🎉🎉

The modern movie experience in a nutshell:
Studio reboots/remakes/adapts a popular IP for 'today's audience' marketing it on nostalgia, and completely changes the fundamentals that fans actually want, while enticing few new fans either. Then access media attacks the fandom for being toxic. Fandom attacks itself.

This is now my favorite take on the year's films. "Art is subjective, business is not." What a great statement

my issue w the animation take is that pixar also had turning red this year, a movie that’s definitely getting oscar nominations and, in my opinion, was able to break out of the pixar mold while still being entertaining and fun. i understand that it was a disney plus exclusive and we’ll never know how it would have done in a theatrical release, but it topped the nielsen chart when it premiered and held near the top for a while. pixar will be fine imo

disney+ really ruined disney. if they had just stuck to making movies for theaters and creating high quality tv shows that they can then sell to netflix they would have been golden. but being forced to milk their major franchises and running them into the ground because they dont have the breadth of the other streaming services has seriously damaged their reputation and significantly lowered the quality of their overall output

A lot of these films had bad marketing. I couldn’t tell you what Amsterdam Babylon or strange world we’re about based on their trailers.

This is the most entertaining “worst films” videos this week. Really great analysis. Hits all the points of what we are thinking. Those are really bad movies and big disappointments both in front and behind the scenes.

Although I have to say, on this list, it seems like the behind the scenes talents (the directors and screenwriters) are mainly responsible for the failures and not the actors. No one saids Margot Robbie was a bad actress from both films. It was the legendary directors who somehow lost the touch or misfire. Chris Hemsworth is giving his all as Thor, but Tika Watiti’s ego got the best of him…

Everyone I talk to about Cavill insists that he got screwed by WB instead of the other way around, and I just can't understand it. I think the proof is in quitting The Witcher, which was his show and he dumped it like it was garbage.

I'm so glad to have your insight into all of this to see so much more of what's going on. Keep up the great work and happy new year!

The reviews are nice and I watch most. The spoiler reviews I usually have no interest in ever. But where Grace truly shines is the Hollywood business stuff… I absolutely eat this stuff up. It’s like Game of Thrones in real life and while most critics only focus on the movies, Grace has cornered a market I don’t think many other critics even know is there. As far as YouTubers, there isn’t anyone like Grace when it comes to covering the juicy behind the scenes drama.

Hollywood really needs to understand. Most of us work long hours, we just want to be able to switch off and have fun watching a movie. We are there for escapism, not to be lectured and messaged at. I for one, regardless of what side the messaging is on, don't go to see a to a movie where I think I'm going to be lectured, end of story.

“Nobody wants to see Jake Gylenhall outside of the MCU” I had no idea he was even in the MCU.

Brilliant video Grace, it really does show that Hollywood talent in particular need to really think through all of their decisions and not think that they're untouchable. Reliving all of the "Don't Worry Darling" car crash was epic! 🤣

Love the direction you went with this list. I always think "worst of lists" are kinda meaningless because didnt watch or play, in the case of video games, anyway. Most disappointing or career killing as you put it is a better direction since people actually consumed these properties anyway.
