I find it hilarious how absolutely disgusted HP Lovecraft was with penguins.

This man could read audiobooks professionally. He's damn good.

I am absolutely stunned at the level of detail in this book, everything from specific locations, to geology, to the explanation of the ancient city is incredible. I also really like the part where both of them felt bad for the Elder Things that were trying to return to their city only to be destroyed by a shoggath.

Now this is a Christmas gift I can get behind

Not blowing smoke, genuinely the most apt voice to narrate Lovecraft. Clear articulation with no melodramatic overacting. The correct cadence and tone. It's very easy to make Lovecraft sound pulpy or stuffy with the wrong narrator, so many renditions of ATMOM sound silly or boring, not yours. Excellent work sir, as are your other videos on the Mythos on this channel.

I absolutely love lovecrafts use of scientific style of writing as it makes it feel so much more real and tangible even his occasional use of the word fantastical portrays more of a sense of awe and bewilderment than that of fantasy or magic it has a way of pulling you in to the story

I'm gonna say it...this HAS to be what Gunther from Adventure Time is based off of. A primal, space traveling, world eating tentacled monster who's form was compressed into the shape of a penguin

You perfectly caught the cold, soul- and emotionless way that Lovecraft wrote all of this with your voice. Good job.

Ah yes, 4 hours of Lovecraft: perfect for Christmas

The Elder Things went through war and parlay with even the host of Cthulhu, even the Flying Polyps and the Mi-Go. Yet those primordial mountains terrified them in spite of their experiences. What evil could forbidden Kadath possibly hold?

If anything I've learned from Casual Geographic is true, Lovecraft's bird slander is reasonable and ahead of it's time

I love your Lovecraft audio stories! This is one of my favorites by him, too!

One thing I like to do is try to empathize with the “evil” monsters, or at least try to understand their actions. This one is a good one to do.

Imagine you woke up from a 40 million year hibernation. Prob super hungry, thirsty, and delirious. It’s terribly cold for some reason and the worst blizzard you’ve ever experienced is going on. You can also smell one of your buddies’ blood all over, and maybe hear these weird growls and howls from some unknown creatures nearby.

You get up to figure out what the heck is going on and this weird pink ‘asymmetrical’ (aka, not radial) thing is there digging into your buddy with some crude knives. What would you do? I’d probably freak out. I might even attack the monster dissecting my friend (who may or may not also be alive! Us readers don’t know!).

Even if the elder things didn’t attack the men, I wouldn’t be surprised if the men attacked the elder things out of shock, and then they had to retaliate.

While not directly based, one of my favorite movies “in the mouth of madness” is very inspired by this and much of lovecrafts work

Don't know where you found all the art for this but it made listening to this story a much better experience. I've always had my own ideas of what the story portrayed but having an artistic perspective someone else imagined made the story better for me.
