I wish more attorneys were as self aware and empathetic as you are. Thank you so so much.

Also, the judges voice is top notch. I want him to say “These are their stories.” Like for law and order.

I let out an audible "ummmm..." at one of the defense's closing statements, it was so ridiculous.

The lawyer basically claimed that the defendant could not have purchased such a large amount of Fentanyl because no trace of Fentanyl was found in the house.
But we know for a fact the victim died of a Fentanyl overdose. So the fact that no trace of it was found clearly does not prove there was no Fentanyl. If anything, the absence of it is far more suspicious than if they had found some.

It just blew my mind that she would make that argument, with how it flies in the face of logic.

I'd be curious to see more evidence but it certainly does not look good for the defendant already.

Omg! The judge's reaction when the forensic accountant said he had 6 life insurance policies 😮.

I’m overcoming fear of court by learning thru youre channel

It’s absolutely true that perpetrators get more rights than victims, or what I prefer, survivors. My husband shot me, and I have barely gotten any help from my county. I feel like I am being punished for being a survivor of an attempted murder/suicide. Thank you for speaking out for us Emily. ❤

A thing for non-utahans to know is that the little mountain towns like Midway and Heber are about an hour away from the Draper gas station.

Loved the sidebar, Emily! As an advocate, it’s so important to talk about these things! Thank you for taking the time to do so:)

No matter what I think of him - I am glad his defense is going full throttle, especially in a death penalty case. We already have too much innocent blood on ourhanda to risk another one.

He deserves to be fully defended, just as any of us would.

I know I am commenting after the fact but as a mother that has lost her child to Fentanyl, I can tell you that there is a fight to have them relabeled from an accidental overdose to poisoning. They are starting to prosecute those who give someone fentanyl as second degree murder. It is the leading cause of death for people aged 18-45 in the US right now so it is refreshing to see them actually investigating and pursuing this

OMG! I had 3 c sections, the 1st and 3rd being emergencies. My daughter was my 3rd, was 37 weeks, but didn't remember to breath on occasion, so she spent 17 days in the NICU. I don't wish it on anyone. It's so scary and sad.

I think contesting the indictment is just tactics to win them more time to prepare for trial without waiving their right to a speedy trial

Also as an addict in recovery, even when people OD they dont usually try to use all of their stash at once so they can use again later hopefully avoiding sickness. Idk if that helps, but just something i thought could be a little useful tidbit.

The caring empathetic piece you talked about in your sidebar, is one of the reasons I absolutely ❤❤❤ Judge Middleton. I watch quite a few courtroom live feeds on YT because I find the whole process and procedure totally fascinating. To be honest, I'm kinda addicted to this stuff. Judge Jeffrey Middleton is a Civil Court Judge in St. Joseph County, MI. Because it's Civil Court, you're not gonna see anything violent like murders or assaults. So, not a whole lot of victims (in the typical sense) in his Courtroom. The main thing he handles that involves "victims" is Landlord/Tenant disputes. It always amazes me how gentle, understanding, compassionate and sympathetic the Judge is towards these Defendants. Usually they are getting evicted because of something THEY did to themselves, like fail to pay the rent or violate the lease. But he's always patient, listens to their whole story and often comments that "It's hard for everybody, on both sides of this" Especially if it's a family, with multiple children, or an elderly person being told they have 10 days to move or the Sheriff is gonna come and put their stuff out on the street. There have been times where I've heard him use his "Judicial" big voice, and get stern with somebody, but not very often. Mostly, he's extremely FAIR, weighing both sides of the situation and ruling accordingly. He actually sometimes disagrees with the Landlord or the Officer and rules in favor of the Defendant, and they don't get evicted.
Anyway, my point is, before I got into watching Law Tube and discovered how our Legal System actually works, I used to be terrified to walk into a Courtroom. Just like you were talking about, you started thinking about the people in the gallery being terrified. I was scared to death to speak to a Judge or, heaven forbid, do anything that would cause me to come before one of them. I always thought of them as some version of the Old Testament God. Judge, Jury and Executioner, hard-nosed and unflinching. Ready at a moments notice to rain down fire and brimstone, to smite people or cut off their heads. That was my perception. But now that the"wizard" has been revealed from behind the curtain, I get to, at least virtually, meet people like Judge Middleton, who seems like a very nice man. Someone that I would love to go have a cup of coffee with just to hear him tell stories of his time on the Bench. A lot of the Defendants that come before him, he calls them by name, he knows their parents, when they give out their address, he knows.... "Oh, is that the big brown house on the corner there??" .😃😃 It makes me trust the Judicial Process so much more to see a Judge, on the bench, be so kind to the people in his Court. And to watch channels like yours, EDB. Thank you for taking the time to read these TEDIOUS legal documents and explain them. It helps make everything so much better and less confusing. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜💯
