I think the awakening is that parents are realizing that they have to be engaged with their kids and not send them off to school with the hope and prayer that the state will do all the work for them. Our three kids are the products of public schools yet we always read to them, ensured they were finishing their homework and monitored what they were learning. I admire the parents who did the same and realized that the school board had gone off the rails and fought to correct the situation.

Any changes in a school system curriculum should be cleared and approved by parents to teach their children . This is why you have the PTA . Today, more than ever, every parent should get involved !
In the same way church and state is divided there should be an understanding as to the importance of a sacred trust with parents and their children as to what is acceptable in schools . We are paying dearly in taxes for our education system with OUR tax money and should have the right to get what we deem acceptable .
