What started off as a simple sea shanty turned into ...so much more. It was probably at the point where I wanted to "submerge" the listener during the chorus that I knew that I needed to extend the genre boundaries to...whatever this is xD
BIG shoutout to all the people who helped me with this. It was a massive project with 100+ voice layers, live strings and percussion and tons of sound design.

I honestly didn't know this was for a lol character when I heard it on Spotify (I don't play). It's still awesome as the story of a whaler who went overboard, then saw his captain cut his lifeline instead of hauling him up, leaving him to draw off an angry whale. Only for him to return as a vengeful spirit, killing the crew off one by one

My favorite little touch is how the song has no real instrumental until the first chorus, when he falls into the sea. Before that point, all it has is a bit of percussion and the acapella humming.

This represents, to me, how alone Pyke truly was. Right up until he found his new family at the bottom of the sea.

I love how intelligently written the chorus is; The final line at the start is "The ocean seeks to take you down with me" and at the end it changes to "The ocean seeks to take you drown with me". At first it might not seem like it makes much sense. Until you slightly adjust how you read it. Instead of listening to it as the original flow, break it into 2 different sentences where Pyke ends by commanding you to share his fate: "The ocean seeks to take you. Drown with me."

It maintains the same beat and sound to the song, but a subtle change at the end that twists the final part of that line to mean something new. And beautifully captures his psychotic drive, it is not just that he sees this as the will of the sea to claim you, but he himself wants you in the abyss alongside him. Huge love to you as a Pyke main!

The sound design in this is amazing. I really like the feeling and sensation of being pulled under the water for each chorus. The music in the back dulls as if underwater, just to come back at full volume when he appears. This flows in a very odd, but amazing way. Tapped my foot, bobbed my head, tapped my fist against the desk in rhythm... Got chills with the entire chorus, only to truly shake at "Down with me".

I loved this. This is so uniquely Pyke... that I can't help but love it.


Also, my buddy is a Pyke main and I feel like this mix would be something he'd love so excuse me while I go see what his thoughts are!

Its songs like this that make me wish that characters like Cho'Gath had more lore, so people could make more league songs.

I must admit, even tho shanties aren't my favorite genre, you nailed this one. There isn't a better genre for this champ, and no better champ for this genre. I'm listening to this on repeat and my partner, who is a Pyke main, definitely does the exact same. Good job, this one is definitely Pyke main approved and should become his theme!
