It's always a pleasure for me to go back and play games I've already experienced. I enjoyed my first run with the rpg, Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch Remastered and I'm happy to get back at it again this time with Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch Remastered for the ps4! Fear not Ni No Kuni is also available for the Nintendo Switch and PC.

"Journey back to the other world in Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered. LEVEL-5’s classic tale returns better than ever, with improved graphics and performance, on PS4 and PC. Join Oliver as he embarks on an adventure through a world inhabited by new friends and ferocious foes alike in the hopes of bringing back his mother after a tragic incident. With a copy of the Wizard’s Companion in his hand and his trusty friend Drippy by his side, he will travel across this rich fantasy world to tame familiars, take on enemies, and overcome the countless challenges that stand between him and his mother’s salvation.

This charming tale unfolds through the use of animation storyboarded and created by the legendary Studio Ghibli and music composed by the renowned Joe Hisaishi. Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch combines beautiful animated visuals, masterful storytelling, and a sweeping score to create an epic role-playing adventure like no other."

My favorite thing about this game was that at the time of it's release it was a breath of fresh air. So many jrpgs were chasing that realistic, western art style and highly stylized games like this fell to the wayside.

These games always felt like watching a fully animated feature. I look their visuals so much!

It's been a few years since I posted this one, but I remember the "all-out defense" working fairly well as long as you time it right before the highly telegraphed attacks. But I do wish there were more defense options, or maybe some AI customization like in Tales games.

The familiar-catching definitely is frustrating at times. I think my least favorite aspect was learning when you 100% the game, you unlock a car to drive in the overworld. It sounds cool, but when you've nothing left to do in the game, it feels kinda bittersweet.

The banes you described in the review have proven to be an absolute boon for me, as someone who has a very small library of demanding but fulfilling RPGs.

Taming a familiar I didn't have yet and level grinding the ones I do have while scouting for rare drops cancel each other out. It's like making a separate dish on the stove while your deep dish has to sit in the oven for a while.

Absolutely the best way to enjoy the game is fulfilling requests and filling out out Errand Cards for the quality of life improvements.

For the alchemy aspect, food is definitely primed for end-game since the feeding process and crafting high-end snacks are so damn tedious.
The medals and gear crafting on the other hand are more accessible and absolutely insane. At the moment I'm actually maining Swaine with medals that boost his attack speed and maximizes damage at full HP. And since he is a gunner, he keeps these benefits, and the build renders his MP usage negligible, allowing for more flexibility with his preferred familiars' offensive capability.

I fell out of the Pokemon scene hard, outside Legends Arceus, and Ni No Kuni has been scratching my itch since the spring of this year.

I love this game a lot. Oliver is such a sweet, pure character with sweet motives, and the ways that the narrative ties into his own story makes me cry my eyes out. Even now I get teary eyed just hearing some of the music and I haven't even played it since the PS3 lol. Really should go back to this one again.

Gameplay wise I remember loving it. I got REALLY into it and was just swapping characters left and right mid-battle and giving them all direct commands lol, it's tbh a lot to juggle and kind of a lot to ask from people, but IF you can get into the groove of playing that way it can be a great time (although yes, having to tell everyone to defend manually was a pain lol...)

I recognize that there are only so many games in the world to play, but it is always wild to me when a review comes from a channel I'm subscribed to releases a review on a game I've started playing within the past week. Love to see it.

Cheers and good video as is tradition.

Awesome review as always. I played through this about a year ago and was stoked about the Ghibli affiliation. The gameplay wasn't for me, and I think you nailed it on all your commentary on the gameplay. The story is where it's at, and that's what kept me going. However, the story started really dragging for me at about the halfway point. I was also a tad disappointed at how few hand-drawn animated scenes there were. The game teases you with a TON of hand-drawn scenes early in the game. Then those kinda disappear til the end. Not my cup, but I'm glad I played it.

I do like how wholesome this game was when I played it, because it really loved making some holes in my heart....

Just before Ni no Kuni came out I was really into Studio Ghibli, with my favourite being Nausicaa Valley of the Wind. It's been years since I played Ni no Kuni on the PS3 & I might play it again once I clear my backlog.

I still remember missing out on the Collector's Edition for this game on PS3 but eventually getting the standard version was well worth it. It really does make you feel like you're playing a more classic jrpg that feels and looks a lot like an anime. With Joe Hisaishi as composer, it's a really well designed jrpg.

I just started this game over the weekend, got about 10 hours into it, got to the boat. Feeling like I'm about to quit it. Everything is tedious and all the back tracking takes up so much time.
