The case and the motors are 3D printed. I am using a Nema 23 stepper motor with the motor driver a4988. It's connected to an esp32s board with esphome firmware which helps integrate with Home Assistant.

Since August and Nuki died on me after 1 year of use, each, i've came to wonder why they didn't use a brushless motor without any cogwheels, i really don't trust plastic cogwheels, but since this design it's very simple (Keep it simple) should give this a shot.
Was thinking about making one with a brushless motor with a double failsafe for when you don't have energy.
Thanks for the inspiration.

Damn I thought of a similar idea a couple years ago, so cool to se it actually done! How do you interact with it? Is it a phone proximity sensor or just a remote control app?

Anyway you can share the code and wiring? I am building exactly the same thing with esphome.
