Thanks for sharing this. I’m in this exact same position right now, and I’m gonna definitely wait until my background check clears.

I would never wait around for a company to make a call while I leave my job before I sign on the line! I went for a high paying UI/UX developer role for JPMC, nearly had it after 3 interviews and still didn’t land it. A company can pull the rug at any moment in the process so I agree 1, 000%! Stay sharp and always have the transition timing down.

Thank you good information! I keep hearing horror stories about recruiters just giving people the run around. I've been out of the job hunting game for almost 15 years now and it doesn't sit well with me that I may have to start looking with all of these offshore people being hired - replacing tech positions :-(

Good to know. I'm about to start putting in applications. I'll make sure to use caution.

I dealt with this sterling company as well. Took forever to verify old work and process my background check. Took over a month for me to get started. Very frustrating and stressful times!

That’s why you don’t give your two-week until your bg check is clear.

man I'm glad it all worked out in the end, that must have been scary!

In Denmark I believe the law is to give 1 months notice. And in general the norm is to give current month + a month. Now that might be the last day of the current month or just somewhere in it. And you'd never leave until you've signed your contract at the new place.

Waiting for 5 or 6 weeks to know and/ or definitely start a new job and one is currently not working is too stressful to contemplate

Glad it worked out for you but the moral is NEVER put oneself in this vulnerable precarious position because it could lead to negative financial as well emotional consequences

Many thanks for sharing, sir

I hardly ever give a 2 week notice. I wait until the first day of the new job then send a professional email resigning effective immediately.

This is great advice. It;s not your "new job" until you have started.

In my asian country, we have a document called coe ( certificate of employment) so if that website cant verify you, you have document.

That coe document contains the HR of your former company to call, anytime for your background check.

I don’t resign until my background check clears. Even if it means that there is a reduced notice. Employment in the United States is at-will except for in Montana.

Lucky you!
I usually give a month long notice, it has worked out perfectly for me

Yeah, I waited for the background check to finish to give my two weeks notice and start date. I had to send an enormous amount of paperwork for the background check.
