Helen Roseveare (1925–2016) was an English Christian missionary, doctor, and author. She worked with Worldwide Evangelization Crusade in the Congo from 1953 to 1973, including part of the period of political instability in the early 1960s. She practiced medicine and also trained others in medical work.

Helen Roseveare was born in Haileybury College in Hertfordshire, England in 1925. Her father was Martin Roseveare, the designer of ration books for the United Kingdom used during the Second World War. Her brother, Bob Roseveare, was a wartime codebreaker. She became a Christian as a medical student at Newnham College, Cambridge in 1945. She was involved with the Cambridge Inter-Collegiate Christian Union, attending prayer meetings, Bible study classes, and evangelical events.

After completing her studies, Roseveare applied to WEC to be a medical missionary. In 1953, she went to the Congo, where she was assigned to the northeast provinces. She built a combination hospital/ training center in Ibambi in the early 1950s, then relocated to Nebobongo, living in an old leprosy camp, where she built another hospital. After conflict with other staff at the hospital, she returned to England in 1958.

She returned to Congo in 1960. In 1964 she was taken prisoner by rebel forces and she remained a prisoner for five months, enduring beatings and r apes. She left the Congo and headed back to England after her release but returned to the Congo in 1966 to assist in the rebuilding of the nation. She helped establish a new medical school and hospital, as the other hospitals that she built had been destroyed, and served there until she left in 1973.

After her return from Africa, she had a worldwide ministry speaking and writing. She was a plenary speaker at the Urbana Missions Convention three times. Roseveare died on 7 December 2016 aged 91 in Northern Ireland.

He is faithful to deliver us from the storms. 🥺🙌💖 Hearing her narrate this gives me an understanding of the things I went through since childhood. I have been through many storms but I'm not bitter, I'm better because he's healed me and comforted me all my life. Thank you my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, words fail me to describe how grateful I am that you saved a sinner like me. 🙏😭💖

It's a privilege to suffer for our Lord. I believe that's true!

Suffering is seen as a negative. In todays world the vast majority will go out of their way to avoid even an ounce of discomfort without even realizing, or refusing to admit that suffering makes you strong.

So it can be said that suffering while keeping faith in God brings us closer to Him. It strengthens our faith.

God has the power to bring forth suffering, but he also has the power to end it. He has ended my suffering by helping me realize that I suffer for a reason.

When I look back at my life and think about key events or core memories and see these events through my born again eyes, I can see the reason for it and I know what it did for me.

I was an outcast in school. Bullied every single day from beginning to end. Very few friends, never hung out with anyone after school, always alone. Growing up like this left me full of anxiety and depression, well into adulthood. I've been to therapy and pumped full of so many medications and nothing helped until He found me.

I realize that I suffered all those years so I wouldnt get lost in the crowd. I spent years upon years just watching and listening to the lives of everyone around me. There were talks of sex and drugs and fighting... thinking back now I'm so thankful that God protected me from that life. To be accepted by them I would of had to have been like them.

I feel like I understand people more. I can read subtle hints, changes in tone and body language better than most people I know. And in a one on one, face to face conversation I can sniff out a lie from a mile away.

I attribute all of that to God and His plan for me. Without Him I would have been just like everyone else and I wouldnt have the life I have now nor would I be the man that I am today.

This womans faith is unshakable because of her suffering. She knew there was a purpose behind it and she survived. She is stronger in faith and in character than most people alive today and I pray for her nothing but good things.

God bless her and everyone who took the time to read this.

It makes my heart ache that these suffering and abuse of fair skinned people are not talked about and explored giving knowledge that they were not all abusers and hateful souls. We must stand up for all of humanity and stand together. May we all feel more loved and might we unite hand in hand heart to heart and accept our differences as that is what colors the world

There are very few people in this world with this type of bravery, suffering for Christ as she did.
