I have a plush version I originally got to get a cheap one to do funny pictures. showed my nephew and said it was a fake elf. he doesnt report back to santa. my nephew who is 8 taunted him calling him fake.

These became a "thing" when my children were young. I thought about getting one but something told me to not get one. Years later, I babysat at a relative's house and they were very much into elf on a shelf. By then, I had definitely determined that the things gave me the creeps. I am so glad that I did not have one in my house for my children. It reminds me of being in a demonic police state where the all-seeing eye is conducting surveillance on everyone.
